Well I'm in Co. Longford and the howling sounds like the end of the world.. (I'm prone to the dramatics lol). I am afraid something like windows are going to break in, or that the chimney will explode! It certainly sounds like it!!!

    God.

haha, partly guessed so , just the boss ranting to me about people taking zero care of trees and bushes on their land on the side of the road. it will only be a few hundred euros damage, but during the course of a year the amount of mirrors we replace due to zero maintenance to hedges is staggering

    Just reached my destination.

What's normally a 10 minute drive took 45 minutes as almost every road is blocked due to fallen trees. The trail of destruction is just insane.

Hats off to met eireann for being the biggest shower of incompetent **** in the country.

Kudos to everyone in the weather forum though. Without the forecasts and model updates everyone would have been caught on the hop with this storm.

Cork City Council issued a revised weather alert that is covering until 19:00 now.
The following alert has been issued.
Severe Weather Warning : Code Level Red

Continuing very stormy for a time this evening with very dangerous westerly winds of mean speeds of 80 to 100km/h and very severe gusts of 130 to 170km/h.

    Valid from 15:00 Wednesday 12-February-2014 until 19:00 Wednesday 12-February-2014

Went out as an email and SMS alert to anyone registered.

Are we due a second round of this in the next couple of hours or are they just being very cautious ?

The numbers without power are going to rise dramatically as the evening goes on I would imagine - already over quarter of a million without power - unbelieveable
