    Hi folks,

can anyone receommend an Independent Volvo Mechanic in the Limerick city area?

Preferably someone that's really experienced and worked at Elm Motors or Lyons previously and knows their Volvo cars inside out and has the right disgnostic gear etc.

We have an S80 and S40 that need some work. Petrol and Diesel.

Would prefer not to pay main dealer labour rates.

    Who is good?

I can't help you with a Volvo specialist but I can recommend Seamus McGrath motors. Very good and the best of gear. http://www.seamusmcgrathmotors.com

My second last car was a Volvo S40 that I bought from Seamus McGrath when he was working with Elm Motors - they were still Volvo dealers at the time. Ive used his garage before and found them very good.

I did not think Seamus McGrath worked for Elm motors. I only ever remember them being an independent mechanics. I could be going mad though..

Yea, he did (and you're not going mad!!). Years back I took my cars to him when he had a place off O'Curry Street - if I remember corectly, it used to overlook the old Ted Castle's Coal Yard. He was the place that a lot of the taxi drivers used to take their cars to at the time. Then he had a place in a yard off Upper Gerald Griffin St. I'm not sure, but I think he had a car sales place on the Dock Rd at some stage too?

He was definitely working at Elm Motors as a sales person himself because I bought my second last car from him.

Drive along Sexton Street, you will see Seamus's place on the right hand side, would recommend him also

    Thanks for the help folks.

@naughtysmurf, are you sure about the location - his website says he's in Ballysimon and not Sexton Street?

    Seamus McGrath Motors
Unit 1 East Link, Ballysimon Road, Limerick (behind O’Mara Motors)

So does he have 2 garages?

I think he moved a while ago to the premises in Ballysimon.

He is in Sexton St for sure, he used to be out in Ballysimon, not sure exactly what the story is with that place now, seems to be trading away under his name, may own both, not sure but you will find Seamus in Sexton St

    Hello,
Just curious as to what are the symptoms with the petrol model?
I have owned many a volvo and have probably fixed every issue they have at one stage or another.

If I was a betting man - throttle body plus antiskid errors?

Yeah 90% of the time it's the throttle body,

Thanks for all the suggestions folks.

Problem with the petrol S40 is that when the car is coasting (clutch dipped) or stopped at a jucntion, the revs of the engine dip really low (you can even observe this on the rev counter), and the engine sounds like it will cut out and stall. Its hasn't stalled so far - but I'd like to get it checked out all the same. Under normal acceleration, the car is fine.

Also - could be a related problem, or perhaps not, sometimes the car needs two turns to start...

    Thanks,
    PH
