With Klopp leading them along with the signings of Gundogan, Reus, Vidal, Hummels, Kroos, Cavani and co, I'll need to lump on them winning it all next season ASAP before the odds shorten.

Same, that plus I want to see Ibe get a run out for near to full game. In saying that, I wouldn't mind seeing an attack of Ibe - Sturridge - Sterling start at the Emirates and just destroy them on the counter again.

Same here. Looking forward to Ibe getting some game time.
Aspas should be in with a shout as well.

Can't make too many changes in case you disrupt the flow. Ain't broke don't fix it etc etc.

At the same time, some fringe players need to get some minutes under their belt and prove their worth.

I love the way Rodgers was called up on a possible fued and just laughed it off. This is good grounding.

I also want to see him firing on all cylinders in the league but he's a young lad playing a game a week and showing absolutely no signs of fatigue at the minute. There's no reason to rest him.

There are plenty of reasons to rest any player for a cup game - one is to give other players a chance which I think we should - Ibe & Tex in particular I want to see more of.

There's no reason Sterling couldn't come off the bench and provide an excellent couter attacking option, as always

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,033 ✭✭✭Demosthenese

This isn't a game to rest players with no game for another week - need to set the tone and go for the juggular, they'll setup like they did against United and sit deep. We should be going there to get at the early and exploit their weaknesses. By all means bring in the subs if we can do what we did last time ...

I'd agree when it comes to early round cup games, but this is a cup game against a very good team. A game where if we win we have a very good chance of going all the way. There's no reason Ibe or Teixera couldn't come off the bench.

Dave Hannigan ‏@daveyhannigan 18h Liverpool's Joao Carlos Teixeira is one of 100+ Sporting Lisbon players to make it as pros since 2002, their academy costs €5m a year to run

That is an amazingly successful academy and scouting system.

Just noticed that both at Fulham and home to Arsenal, we had more players that had come through the youth team then United in both the squad and starting XI in their corresponding fixtures.

It must be years since that's happened prior to this season, and given United's record of producing both quality for the first team and depth for the squad, its quiet an achievement

This is a drum I love to bang, but I really do think that half the match day squad will be ex-academy players in 2/3 years

    Danny Ward
    Lloyd Jones
    Wisdom/McLaughlin
    Robinson/Smith
    Rossiter
    Sterling
    Ibe
    Sinclair

plus imports who have been given a polish - Suso and Teixeira.

Really - why do you think that? I am glad to see that Wenger is one of the few who isn't talking utter s***e actually.

'Asked why, apart from himself and Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini, every other manager is ruling out title success, Wenger responded: "It's a fear to fail."

Wenger maintains his only focus will be on making sure Arsenal can finish above their rivals come May.
"If you're not in the race you cannot lose it, if you declare yourself not in the race you cannot lose it, simple as that," he said.

"I say yes we are in it, yes we will have a go for it, we will absolutely give everything to go for it and if we don't do it I will take responsibility for it.

I would call that honest to be fair. Don't see how it is handling it badly?? This playing down expectations is ridiculous now at this stage.

4 points between top 4. Ye are in the title race too and ye know it. Smallest squad but least amount of games to play also. Time to embrace it I think for us all. Wish the managers would do the same.

I've a lot of respect for Wenger. He moans a bit, but really not as much as a lot of others. Respectful in interviews. The amount of pressure the man has shaken off through the years.

Yea he's much less of a w***ker than a certain other London based manager I can think of. Even during the whole Suarez affair I thought we was very dignified and respectful towards Liverpool, in spite of what some people thought.

If Liverpool didnt win the league, I think most Liverpool fans would be happy to see Arsenal win it over Chelsea, City, Utd. etc

I think the generally decent Arse-Pool mutual tolerance on Boards took a hit during the Suarez transfer debacle, but it's better now :)

Arsene Wenger is a 'specialist in failure' - Jose Mourinho

Arsene Wenger is a "specialist in failure", according to Jose Mourinho.
The Chelsea boss was responding to the Arsenal manager's claim that other Premier League bosses are playing down their title chances because they "fear to fail".
Chelsea hold a one-point lead over the Gunners at the top of the table.

Mourinho said: "If he is right and I am afraid of failure it is because I didn't fail many times. Eight years without silverware, that's failure."
Under Wenger, Arsenal have not won a trophy since the 2005 FA Cup.
"He's a specialist in failure," continued Mourinho. "If I do that in Chelsea, eight years, I leave and don't come back."

Couldn't agree more. The man's a gentleman with a genuine belief in doing what's good for the game. Polar opposite of Moirinho

At least it's unlikely to happen this summer!

    Unfortunately for us:(

Cannot imagine where we would be now if we got a forward of his ability. Unbelievable.

Ya that 8/9 years is fair slagging among supporters no doubt as a rise.

My issue is that it should be put in context. What I admire Wenger most for is sticking with the Club when they all made a massive decision to move stadium in order to sustain the future of the club.

I think the figure that is bandied about is €450 million it has cost us. Be nice amount of money to have spent on players over the years!!

So Wenger should have been sacked by now

Pelligrini is only doing well because of the money they spent

Rodgers because he has no midweek distractions

And Mourinho, poor Mourinho who hasn't spend a dime, relying only on his managerial prowess to guide his cheaply assembled side to the top.

Delusional is the only way to describe that. It's has to be all about him, and that big head of his. Nearly makes Steve Bruce's look small

You would swear Mourinho didnt have a penny to spend. Chelsea have spent more money than any club in the last ten years surely. Did he find Hazard in the youth team? or did they pay like £32m for him

If Mourinho posted on here he would get a permaban. Imo, he is an absolute troll and the easy way to decipher what he is on about is to turn it upside down.

I struggle to understand the media fascination with him but i suppose journo have to sell papers.

The absolute best end of this season for me would be for us to win the league, chelsea to finish fourth and Arsenal to win the CL.:pac:

    Agree completely.

Wenger is the polar opposite of Mourinho in so many ways.

Mourinho's ego will eat itself and I think folk are seeing through him now-pure drool and boredom.
All we need is for the British media to stop sucking up his bull, and some real journos to start calling it for what it is.

    Im not holding my breath.

    http://www.wallpaperingfog.co.uk/2014/02/premier-league-attack-patterns.html

I might have expected the right wing to feature more strongly than the left, I suspect the Suarez effect is what makes the difference as he tends to pull left when not the sole striker. What this graphic does show is that attacking balls do come from across the width of the pitch, albeit with a poor return on cut backs into the area from the right (that's you Raheem!)

Crazy!!!! They looked better the last two games than any before and they have just signed a number of players. What's the point of giving a manager money to spend and then fire them. Has to be something with Ray Wilkins, he never came out after half time on Wednesday night.
