Platini single handely won France a European Championship, they'd never won anything before, unlike Argentina.

I posted a video of Platini in 84 a few years ago, football porn!

Platini was great in that ec however he had a dam good team around him. the best of which were:
Joel bats was dam good in goal
in defense Maxime Bossis Patrick Battiston were up there with the best at the time
in midfield Jean Tigana, Alain Giresse Luis Fernández who all could play. Fernández was defensive while tigana and giresse were great footballers.
They were lightish up front with D Six and Rocheteau decent footballers and heros in france(if memory serves me right) but platini actually mainly played up front for the tournament.

That team actually came close in WC 1982 and again in 1986.
If you remember it was Battiston that was clobbered by Schumacher in 1982

    Anyway back to Liverpool:

Liverpool U21s on the box tonight - its away to Stoke so watching from behind the settee is recommended. 7pm KO

Just to show how desperately bad the U21 League structure is, Liverpool have played just 11 games so far, just one game in the last 2 months.

    The Mirror
Can we win the title?" the Uruguayan told the Liverpool Echo in an exclusive interview. "I'm not sure. I think this season the Premier League is so difficult. Every team can lose games. Man City, Chelsea and Arsenal have been dropping points.

"To be in the Champions League is what we all want. This is our objective, to play in it next season.
"I watched the games on TV this week and when you hear that Champions League music that's motivation in itself.

"I want to be there with Liverpool. It's an unbelievable competition. It's where we want to be, playing against the top teams in Europe.

"Stevie has told me about Champions League nights at Anfield. He said when you have played Champions League football at Anfield you will never forget it. I want to try it for myself.
"When I arrived here I said it was my dream to play for Liverpool and play Champions League here. I know I can achieve my dreams here"

After all the shįt, stress and cul-de-sac debates/arguments the little bollőx has sent me down...

I so fűcking want us to give Champions League football to Luis Suarez.

    so so deserved !

He can start by banging in a few more goals :-)

Its the same as it ever was.

    CL: he stays.

    NO CL: he goes.

actually us keeping Suarez would eclipse whatever financial gain we get for CL qualification for me.

    Mirror again
Luis Suarez claims Kenny Dalglish will always be No 1 at Liverpool.

Suarez shies away from such talk and he says he will always be behind Dalglish and skipper Steven Gerrard.

"No, no, I'm not at that level," he told the Liverpool Echo in an exclusive interview.

"Kenny is No 1. When he was a player he was just unbelievable. I've watched the videos of him.

"Stevie for me is the best player we have here. He has achieved so much.

He's our captain and a great leader. In the dressing room he never thinks he's better than anyone else. For me he's been one of the best player in the world for a lot of years.

    Suarez in the Echo

If Twitter is to be believed we are back scouting Dede again.

Dede and Sakho .... now that would be a sight to behold.

You are right there, even with a few Youth Cup games, the activity is very low. Hence loans for McLaughlin, Ngoo and Roddan. And Ibe, Smith, Teix and others making the bench for first team games.

Given the game the other night, I don't expect many of them to start again.

I would have thought Ilori is being groomed to be a future CB partner to Sahko - both young CBs that would compliment each other well I think - Sahko with power, Ilori with pace, both very capable with the ball at their feet. How far away from potentially seeing that partnership do people think we are?

I agree with this, after spending that much on Ilori you'd have to think he's been purchased with a view to him becoming a first team player.
I aint seen enough of him to commit to be able to say whether he'll be great or rubbish, but he does look decent from what i have seen.

Ibe gone on loan to Brum, bit strange that

How so? We have only leaguie games left, so v unlikely he'll get games ahead of Sterling, Aspas, Alberto or Moses. He needs regular games if he is to be a squad player for next season. Or if he still needs work, maybe a full season loan next year as well? He's only a kid...

As I posted last night Brum is less than an obvious destination, if you look at their stats they are officially* the most stolid boring team in the world.

He was starting to get a few minutes here and there, after watching Sterling get his chance just thought he might get a few more chances and wait his turn

So he can become their spark. They can rely on him to create chances, and he can learn to be a more tactically aware player (in the way Sterling has clearly become).

i won't get to see it but keep an eye out for a young CB for Stoke Ryan Reilly, young lad from Cavan, hampered a lot with injury but I think he is back playing. He is also a massive pool fan:)

Still would be a great learning experience for him.

He won't get away with pricking about up the field, so will need to keep the discipline and defensive duties which is important to our team, and also, he'll instantly be recognised as a creative outlet in that side.

Even if his goals and assists don't take off, he'll come back better for it.

Glad to see players like him getting experience.

Jaysus, could you imagine him at rb and Doni at rw. Likely the best right side pairings ever, the only way it could be better is if we could replace Platini with someone of higher quality.
    Pity Djimi was left sided.

The more he says things like that, the more I think he will leave :(

I have a growing fear he'll leave. He's a far more marketable option this summer. After the season he's having/had it, consistently being described as one of the best players in the world and to top it all hasn't bit anyone in ages.

While we'd get a great price for him I would be very very dissappoint.

Home to Swansea on Sunday, BR's presser starts in an hour or so, be interesting to see if there are any interesting snippets.

Take it Danny Agger will keep his place? Hendo back in for Allen as well?

Won't be as easy as people think, I'll go for a 2-0 win. Luis to nab both.

Between now and the end of the season, there are no cup or filler games where we can give him a run out. Also, with experienced options like Aspas and Moses on the bench, he would be lucky to get more than a 20 minute cameo. Under 21 football is a waste of time, so if he can get 10 games or so at Birmingham and make an impact, then it will stand him in good stead for next season.

I'm not doubting him btw I should add. Just curious if it's based on any credible source or some ITK. Dede's situation has always been a bit well, weird let's say.

Rumours Rooney signed a new contract worth £85 million.

Going by that, on a pound for pound (no fat jokes) basis Luis Suarez must be worth £897 billionbrazilion.

I really should have said that our entire defence vs Bony worries me, Sakho aside of course. A different day, he'd have two goals to his name vs Napoli last night. His all round game was very good except in front of goal, just a bit of luck was missing.

I rememeber well indeed you only came back to the statements you nearly got right. Not all the ones the statements that were BS.

I could list 50 players now we are linked to and in the summer i could say go back and see I was right and I was told by ITK and didn't make any of these statements up.

If these people are ITK link them or do they just call you up and tell you?

As I said I find you're posts entertaining but if you just make statement without backing them up the rest of us surely should be able to call you on them!

He's quite a physical presence and he likes a good snap shot but he isn't that quick. He's not the type of player that's going to trouble you in behind. Aerially, he might trouble Agger but a guy like Sakho should be dominating everyone.

Bonny's a bit of a hit and miss player (from what I've seen), but when he's hit he can look very very dangerous.

Yeah, I know. Seen a fair bit of him before his move to Swansea. Aerially he should own whoever does start on Sunday, be it from any set piece or Routledge and Dyer finding him with crosses. Agger is particularly woeful dealing that and Skrtel while he has his games, can be a very suspect himself defending set pieces and the like. Sakho is out for another while unfortunately for us.

I'd still expect to chalk up a W despite my concerns. I was a tad a taken aback by how decent Swansea looked last night under Monk before I gave up watching around the 70th minute mark.

Swansea's biggest error would be to go for all out attack, so I hope they do!

Glen Johnson has been back training and he will come back into the squad.
