Half power after storm

    Hi folks.

After Wednesday's storm, the power was off in my sister's house for a few hours. It came back on Wednesday evening but it's as if there is only half power now. It works the lights but they are very dim. Can't boil a kettle. Took three turns of a toaster to defrost a slice of bread. You get the picture.

Any idea what might be causing this? It's as if their supply is earthing somewhere or is that wrong ? She lives in the country and her nearest neighbour has full power.

Sounds like it could be a transformer problem or line problem. You need to contact the ESB. If your an electrician it might be worth sticking a meter on the incoming side of the main switch to get a reading of the voltage supplying the board.

One possibility is 1 phase of the 10kv 3 phase line is down which can cause that.

Its either a 10/20kv phase gone or else a broken neutral. All ESB Networks responsibility anyway. Ring it in.
