Hi all. I was diagnosed about 20 years ago with Polycystic Ovaries and since then have more or less spent my life being shoved from one doctor to another with little or no satisfaction. Blood Test, Scans, Ultrasounds, MRIs and everything in between have become run of the mill for me with the same result everytime - well we can't find anything wrong so here's another tablet for pain relief. I suppose I should explain what my symptoms are to give you a better understanding of where I'm coming from. I never get a period (no sign in blood tests that i've gone through early menopause or am going through same and i'm 34 years of age), I have constant pain in my lower abdomen and in my anal region, I have joint pains nearly always (I'm on 1600mg of slow release brufen for this) I am 800mg of glucophage per day and aldactone as a treatment for the polycystic ovaries, I have sleep apnea and constantly get infections from minor to major. And now to the bit that I hate to say about but I am morbidly obese. I put on weight very easily and have tried every programme from weight watchers, motivation.ie, slimming world and all the fad diets with very little success. I've been to dietitians who have checked my VERY HONEST food diaries and cannot explain why I haven't lost weight. I drink water, I drink very little alcohol. I don't exercise enough because I basically cant and I am constantly exhausted. I would love to know if there is anybody else out there in a similar situation or better still if anybody has been in a similar situation and found a solution I would REALLY LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!!! Before anybody asks or suggests I am under medical supervision (by my GP and several specialists in several different areas) and I will continue to take all medication :cool::cool: Please do get in touch I do feel very alone.

    Hi countryfan,

I'm not sure I can be of any help but just wanted to mentioned i have PCOS too, you could search for a thread in the Ladies Lounge where myself & others have written about our experiences. I don't have symptoms as serious as yours at all & though I was overweight before, I have lost a load of weight. I don't find that it has really helped my symptoms though, so that's frustrating. On the other hand, eating healthier, running & yoga mean I'm feeling better in myself. You're definitely not alone, there are loads of us out there (& on here!) dealing with this.

For you... I'm not sure what we can tell you that a dietician cant unfortunately. You've mentioned fad diets; I found learning about nutrition was best (see the stickies at top of nutrition & diet forum) & tracking my food on MyFitnessPal really helped. I used to feel exhausted too & understanding what I'm eating (and when!) helped me there. You could post your food diary on here & you'll get lots of feedback. It seems alot of people are eating more sugar than they realise- I definitely was- and given the effect on our hormone levels, it's certainly something to watch. What kind of exercise are you doing? Maybe you're taking on too much?
