A new expanded 221 bus service is to begin on the 23rd of February for the Glanmire, Riverstown and Tivoli areas. Buses will be every 30 mins Monday to Saturday and every hour on Sundays.

The new timetable is here. http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1392379680-221.pdf

This is a massive improvement on the very poor service it replaces. IMO this level of service should have been in place 20 years ago.

In addition the 245 will continue to service the area.

Hopefully the high price of tickets on this route will be reduced, now that the 221 is a city service.

That's a pretty massive improvement, wondering about the ticket prices too.

How much is it for a return? If they reduce prices they had better reduce prices on the ballincollig route too,6.80 is a joke .

€6.80, Is that for a return ticket or one way?

Cheers, I haven't been on the Glanmire bus for at least 15 years.
Is there really a need for a more regular service? Outside of rush hour times I rarely see a full bus.

Well, due to the very poor timetable for many years, bus use in Glanmire has traditionally been low. This new timetable will hopefully mean that public transport will become more popular when the residents see that the service has become frequent and reliable. Egg before the chicken, so to speak.

Is there not a bus every hour?

yes, but that isn't enough for a big suburb.
