An unusual knife...

I found this knife among some jumble some years ago but never knew its purpose. Apparently it is a WWII era US Navy floating survival knife (at least according to Google). I couldn't find much info on it. Has anyone here seen anything like it before?

The whole point (or lack) of the knife is that if you drop it in a rubber life raft you aren't going to easily puncture one of the buoyancy tanks.

Yeah, read that point, very interesting! It's funny how I regarded this as a completely useless object until I knew it's actual purpose, once I knew that I could appreciate how a great concept was so well executed, pretty much like any quality specialised tool really, I suppose.
