Here is an article from the Independent.ie on this:

This is a strange one. The land that was granted PP for the data centre is now up for sale, but as a farm

    http://www.independent.ie/business/farming/wicklow-farm-has-options-30099855.html
The customer who buys an 81.14ac farm at Demesne, Kilpedder, Co Wicklow will be spoilt for choice when it comes to deciding what he or she wants to do with the property.

The new owner may wish to farm the land or go ahead with existing planning permission for the development of a data centre and a technology park on the property. In any event, the private treaty sale is being guided by Ganly Walters at €975,000, or €12,000/ac.

The lands are located at Kilpedder just off the N11 in the heart of Co Wicklow, about 32km from Dublin. Local towns include Newtownmountkennedy, which is 1km away while Greystones is 8km.

Ganly Walters' Celia Lamb describes it as excellent pastureland that was once part of the Mount Kennedy estate.

"It consists of top quality free- draining limestone lands," she said. "All in grass and suitable for all types of agricultural use."

Ample shelter is provided by a number of mature trees dotted throughout the farm, which also includes a small wooded area.

The farm is also zoned for development within the current Wicklow County Council local development plan.

However, it is expected that the most interest will come from local farmers and land owners.

There was a small piece in IT a few weeks ago suggesting this had hit buffers as receivers been called in by the banks to sell the site. I saw it in the Paper but couldn't see it on IT website. Anyone know what story is?

Couldn't find the article I was looking for but found some other info that is interesting. This article in the Village magazine gives details of a pretty sordid sounding planning controversy.

village magazine. ie/index.php/2014/09/dick-roche-hits-out/ (sorry not sure how to post links!)

In it says that a company called Ecologic Data Centres, which is a developer called Brian McDonough and his brothers, are behind the data centre:
In the latest zoning and planning controversy to erupt in Wicklow, Roche has sharply criticised Wicklow County Council, the National Roads Authority( NRA) and An Bord Pleanála (ABP) over their treatment of Brian McDonagh and his brothers who obtained planning permission to build a data centre at Kilpedder, Newtown, in July 2010 but have been confronted by a series of obstacles that have prevented the proposed development.

On the courts website there is a judgment against Brian McDonagh vs Ulster Bank in which the judge is allowing the bank to appoint receivers to sell the data centre site in Kilpeddar.

It looks like cronies in WCC have successfully blocked the development and bankrupted the developers. That doesn't sound like they were acting in local best interests.

Do you know the basis of the objections?
Seems bizzare that WCC would forego income from such a venture.
The level of employment would not be significant but the presence of a high tech data centre would be a major boost to the County.

According to the Village article it was the NRA who objected citing traffic concerns

Bumping an old thread I know but I noticed a new gate has recently been put in off the Ballyronan roundabout at NMK side with the old planning application site notice for this data centre.

Anyone know if this is going ahead?
