UPC Horizon Wifi Signal Extender

Can anyone recommend a decent, not overly expensive wifi extender so that I improve the range of the horizon wifi? It doesn't need to be a whole lot, just to adequately cover a 2 bed, ground floor apt in its entirety (on a consistent basis).

From googling a bit it seems you can get homeplugs where you connect Plug A to the horizon box via ethernet cable, plug in Plug A in roughly the middle point of the apartment (but same room as horizon box so good signal received) and plug in Plug B in the desired section area (e.g. bedroom).

Is this correct and, if yes, are they effective?

I also read about wifi repeaters but apparently they can halve bandwidth and are not generally effective?
