Not sure if this is in the right forum so apologies....

My partner who is classed as my common-law husband has just moved to Canada to work for 2 years. He has a contract with a company out there and received his visa and work permit by way of an LMO.We are hoping to shortly start the ball rolling in getting myself and our 4week old baba out three too. We've searched the internet for info but can't see much on people's past experiences doing this. Were looking to find out how easy/difficult others have found it and any info that will help us .How long does it take and will ai be able to work out there on the back of his visa/LMO.

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Leitrim Lady,

You will need to apply for your own Visa as you can't work under your partners visa. Specifically the 2 year IEC Visa when they decide to open it soon.

Regarding your new born (Congrats by the way), here's some info.
I got in touch with a group called the migrantproject and they contacted the Irish Canadian Embassy in Toronto regarding the childrens visa this is the reply they got from the Embassy
    Hi,

The website of the IEC for Ireland appears to no longer have this information, however I have been in contact with the Irish Canadian Immigration Centre in Toronto (www.irishcanadianimmigrationcentre.org) and they have confirmed the following:

‘Dependent children traveling with parents on work permits are not required to carry study permits. Just bring their passports and birth certificates.’

As far as I am aware, you also have to prove that you can support your children for the duration of your stay (sufficient funds, insurance for medical and health-care, return tickets or proof of sufficient funds to purchase these at a later date, etc.). For more information, I suggest you contact the Embassy of Canada in Ireland by email on DUBLIN.IEC-EIC@international.gc.ca

    Whats your Partner working as?
If it is a skilled job then you can get an open work permit for yourself

    Thanks for the replies...
    My partner is an electrician

I actually have the IEC visa from last year and have until end of March to activate it but it doesn't include the baby.its been suggested I go activate the visa and then head back and go out again later on but were still unsure how that works for the baby.Any ideas???

The baby would be allowed to travel as a dependent too young to need a study permit etc
This would be true of both permits

hi leitrim-what part are ye going to-i'm in the process at the minute.I'm going as a skilled worker,so my partners visa is gonna be whats called an open work visa and our baby is allowed come without a visa of her own as we will have thw work visas. If you want to ask anything, send it to me and i'll email the immigration specialist at the company i'm gonna be working for(they are doing all the paperwork for me and my partner/child)

    Hi Mulbot,
My partner is working in Edmonton so that's where I'll be heading for.Ive seen lately that I probably would be able to work on the back of his LMO but I've booked my wee break away;) and I'm really looking forward to it.Hes only gone 2 weeks and I miss his already.Hadn't planned on myself and baba heading this early but we're thinking May.A friend of ours heading back out at end of May so will be handy for me to have someone to help with baby...Where u heading to and when u hoping to head out??

prob better to just get out there sooner rather than later:) its the hard part about it,i'll be headin over late may/june.We're hopin that i get over, set up and suss it out over say,3-4 weeks then they will come for a two week holiday to see if my partner's gonna be happy there.Vancouver is where i'm going, toronto was my first choice(closer to home, some friends etc) but certain factors have decided Vancouver is the place for us
