Its been difficult to tell from the replays so far but I believe it depends on how far Robben had pushed the ball away when he was taken down. If he had pushed it so far that he would have had to fetch and control it then it was not a goal scoring opportunity. however if he would have had the chance to reach the ball to take a shot then it was a red. Replays might help at half time.

    45 minutes to hold out - I'll certainly take the 0 - 0 now.

Delighted to see Arsenal playing well and holding their own against the best in Europe.

Could really do with Ozil shining though. He should be the Ace in our pack. He did very well to get the penalty but apart from that he's been poor.

He should have been taken off instead of Cazorla.

The red card was the issue.

Bar my accidental fcuk up nobody has said it wasnt a penalty.

    Just changed it right after.

It's a red, for me, too.

Thought Robben had fluffed the chance before Shez got anywhere near him tbh, need to see the replay again to be sure but should have been a yellow for me. Was similar to Skrtel's high foot on Cazorla at the weekend in that there wasn't a hope of him doing anything with the ball regardless of the foul.

Doesn't matter now anyway, clean sheet is the priority from here on.

One replay has been shown and most people have made their minds up.

Delighted Bayern didnt score the peno, always had a soft spot for arsenal and wenger, and although the penalty and red card is completely the correct decision, its still an extremely harsh blow to arsenal. Only bad decision of the half was subbing cazorla instead of ozil, cazorla is far more lively and was doing a lot of work for the team. Ozil has been a passenger of late, not a man id want on my team when were down to ten

That's why the rules say goal scoring opportunity and not goal scoring absolute gaurentee

In that case, ozils was a goal scoring opportunity and so boateng should be have been off

    He's never getting to that

Don't think Robben was ever getting to that ball, he knocked it too far ahead of him and it would have rolled out. Very harsh to send him off.

The fact that I have money on Arsenal in now way influences this, honest.

We have played very well so far.

We are good when focused on defending solely so I still have hope we can keep Bayern out.

Sanogo, did very well for 30 minutes - drifted a little after that but very promising signs.

It depends where the ball went after Robben flicked it, haven't seen a replay yet

He deserved the Red, lets not beat around the bush about it.
Ozil peno was rubbish really. He's lacking confidence.
Great display from our defence although Monreal looks dodgy.
Ox is causing Alba problems and Flamini is getting stuck in.

Going to be a miracle to keep this at 0-0.

It's ironic that a team nicknamed "The Gunners" has no firepower up front.

not being snide to Arsenal fans

Be very happy with a no score draw. Going to be very tough now to keep a clean sheet. We have had a few chances, let's hope we get a few more and finish one or two.

Arsenal are playing super, sending off is probably the right decision but I've seen yellows given, ozil penalty was very poor but it happens.

    Big second half needed.

    Come on the gunners!

Jack Wilshere best player on the pitch? Good man Jamie...

Meh, having seen the replay, maybe he would have got to it.

It wouldnt have gone out but sagna would possibly have got there first.

Surely the Ozil penalty was also a goal scoring opportunity.

Wilshere has been excellent too, ripped them apart to put Ozil in.

Need to see it again but doesn't it depend on if he was going to reach the ball - i.e. goalscoring opportunity?

In any case I thought at the time his touch was soft enough that he would so correct decision if so.

Ozil pen miss and Gibbs injury the defining moments unfortunately. Game over for us. Bayern should win by 2/3 now.

Ozil missed 3 penalties in a row

Clearly he would have got it

    GlamorousBoldBlackbear.gif

Sagna who was several yards back and off the pace got to it before it went out

I agree with Ballack, a penalty should be enough. Red card ruins the game.

The referee probably took his form of late into account.

After seeing that replay I think he could have got to it so no arguing with the referees decision

Boateng had 3 or 4 on the cover. However he should arguably be off too, his second tackle was late and from behind.

    Two very bad penalties.

Yeah, I thought it was out of play, didn't realise Sagna reached it.

Just seen Flamini's reaction to the miss. He was absolutely delighted. Wish everyone was as committed.

He will get himself sent off, I'd get Chamberlain running at him straight away.

Bayern might see red too before the end of this.

Ugh big 45 minutes. Hope we can hang on.

Correct red. Ches made no attempt to compete for ball. Just took out Ruben. Harsh on arsenal. Very harsh.

    :(

Wilshere has been quality. Defensively brilliant and moved the ball quickly and effectively.

We need Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere and Ozil to run at Boateng every opportunity they get now. He is the weak link with the booking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,382 ✭✭✭✭greendom

I think Kos was blocked by Mandzukic leading up to the pen. Had he not been he would have been able to challenge Robben and Szez could have stayed on his line.

I agree with Ballack, a penalty should be enough. Red card ruins the game.

The German FA has for a while lobbied with FIFA to get the rule changed, as it is a double (in some instances even treble) punishment, i.e. sending off, Penalty, Games Ban, but FIFA insist on keeping this silly rule.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,641 ✭✭✭andyman

Genuinely don't understand this "Penalty and red card is too much" nonsense.

Don't commit a red card offence in the penalty area then?

Anyone see robben spitting on sagna?

Just seen it on you tube can't upload it , absolute scumbag
