Just wondering what options there are..

I would like to be able to access my PC from my TV screen wirelessly and be able to play movies/music/see the desktop.. and possibly even play games (?)

I have a raspberry pi, openelec with XMBC for the films, but eventually the overall slowness of it and constant slow updates with the scraper did my head in

You are only as fast as your slowest piece of equipment.

For example you will not be able to stream very high quality / high bandwidth stuff with out using high band wireless,

check out your hardware,

wireless hardware rates from 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, with ac being the latest and best for streaming stuff,

If your equipment is anything less then n, forget about "lag-free" streaming, unless you tanscode to lower quality on the fly

Why not connect the PC directly to your TV and use a wireless keyboard/mouse?

thanks for replies - not possible to connect pc to tv

I can watch perfectly streamed 720 and even 1080 being streamed over the net in very good quality

Surely I can stream my desktop to my TV screen somehow?

Forget gaming, what I would like is to be able to access my PC desktop from the TV and then just watch films etc streamed over

Load a VNC client on the RPi and VNC server on PC.

I would stay away from anything that does the conversion over USB, have never seen them work properly.

Hardware HDMI->Wireless/Wired-->HDMI are the only ones i've seen work properly.

What's your current setup?

How far away from the PC is your TV/Raspberry Pi?

I have Raspberry Pies scattered around the house and can stream from the PC or NAS (or any networked device) no problem, even at really high bitrates.

The best option is always to hard wire the ethernet but if you can't do that, a half decent WiFi dongle should work, no problem.

You would need to plug it into a powered USB hub connected to the Pi, as the RasPi won't provide it with enough current... I use a 3A PSU to a hub and run the RasPi and all peripherals from the hub

But if you're a long way from your WiFi router, and the signal is pants, a little repeater is your best option.
