Game rained off on friday Would be nice too ;)

It's an early game (at 9.30am) I think so even if a day off work is needed, maybe cut the grass instead. But for our general health.....rain would do.

Porterfield says Stirling scan show nothing, just soft tissue, awkward place to get hit and he should be fine.

As for rain on Friday ... only if it takes out BOTH games! Our nightmare scenario is Zim get to play and we don't. Let the rain stay away and lets just beat the Dutch and do it right!

Going back to prior threads, I'm one very happy bunny that Porterfield seems to have rediscovered his form just in time!

If our match finished as a no result we have 5 points with Zimbabwe only able to get a maximum of 4.

So yes Rain will do nicely :D

Looking at the next phase and not taking things for granted, we need all the match practice we can get so let's go out and beat The Netherlands on Friday and make it 6 points. Then the rest can start quaking in their boots!

He has been excellent so far. Im delighted, because honestly I would have had no hesitation in dropping him for this tournament, such was his form in the past 12 months or so. He was a wicket waiting to happen which is never good at the top of the order, but now he looks in a lot better touch.

Another good win today, didnt get to see any of it unfortunately due to work. Ireland picking up some momentum now, its very important in tournament situations. Starting to dream ;)

Agree re Porterfield, there were some serious question marks over his form but he has played well in both games. Some good bowling figures in there too

Kyle mcCallan saying on sky t20 zone that word from inside the camp is Stirling is 50/50 to play Friday. Fingers crossed

You would think that if it was only ' tissue' damage as indicated previously that they could give him a 'shot' and let him play?

Youve got to have one eye on thinking what happens if we get into the tournament proper though. No sense in risking him for a game against Holland if it means we dont have him for the bigger games.

Afghanistan 50/5 after 9 ovrrs chasing 142 to win v Nepal

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,570 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Nepal win by 9 runs. A reminder if needed that our lads (or us) shouldn't take anything for granted tomortow

Would Nepal have been underdogs in this one?

Most certainly. It is generally accepted that Afghanistan are best of the associates after ireland

Holland will be a better side than Nepal also.

Tbh our batting worries me somewhat. Openers have done well, but middle order has looked a bit shakey in the couple of games so far, and once a couple of wickets fell we started to lose more with worrying regularity. Hopefully we can sort this tomorrow.

Hong Kong have just bowled out Bangladesh for 108 in just 16.3ovs

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭djimi

Im guessing that given the NRR (+2.686 for Bangladesh compared to +0.933 for Nepal), there is little chance of Bangladesh not progressing even if they lose this game?

Nepal has never come close to qualifying for any tournament but are there because they have a great squad.

They would not challenge the big boys but beating Afgan is a huge step forward.

HK are another emerging team to challenge the likes of Holland for top 6 places of Associate Teams. Don't forget Scotland didn't qualify.

    What a finish here.

Really hope Hong Kong can finish this out, but either way it's been a belter.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,785 ✭✭✭✭Pudsy33

Go on Hong Kong! What a way to finish. Needed one run and he smashes a 6.

  • Registered Users Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭djimi

Thats a great way to bring it home :pac:

Fair play to them. Got very nervey at the end.

  • Registered Users Posts: 39,570 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

HK win it but needed to win in something like 14.3 overseas to knock out Bangladesh. Would have been v doable but I guess main focus for HK was getting the win

Just delighted to see some of the "lesser" cricketing nations being given a chance like this. They are much better suited to this type of game and can potentially cause upsets in such a short game
