Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Was going to add reasons but can't handle the criticism.
Same for me, it's almost like you're not even allowed to have an opinion!

Northern Ireland and Wales are both in the UK so they're excused from this argument. The Premiership isn't necessarily a foreign league to them.

But by definition it is unfortunatley, being that Wales and Northern Ireland are not part of England, will make the Premier League a foreign league to the respected national leagues.

The people who put their British club ahead of their own country are getting very touchy

Again, as it has been asked several times, is this a general discussion or dig at anyone who has anything to do with anything British? ie Is this a footballing discussion or a political one?

For whoever said they can't fathom how someone could pick their club ove their country. Consider this. I go see my club every single week. It's like a brotherhood, a group of mates.... or like a club!!

That's harder if you follow a team in another country. And that's not baiting, that's just logic

Ireland is definitely not the national team to be following if you want that.:pac:

The team that started our last home game had 9 players starting born on this island. What is your point?

You're not willing to engage. That says it all.
You're the product of what Sky Sports has caused in this country.
You'll only support teams that are successful and glamorous.

Yup, you got me there chief. All that success. Nom, nom, nom.

Wales has 2 teams currently in the English Premiership.

Actually followed them 2007 after seeing one of their games live, but for you I'll say 2009 and Liverpool 2005.

For the record I would be a Spurs supporter. I just wouldn't feel the same connection standing in White Hart Lane surrounded by cockneys cheering on Adebayor, Soldado or some other fella who only moved to Spurs for the money. I went last year and in my head I was thinking "what am i doing here. I don't belong here"
My country comes first though. Being in Lansdowne cheering on lads who grew up in the same country as us or have a family connection to this great place is what football is all about.

Well, that explains it. 54 seasons and counting, is it?

The atmosphere is way better in most British stadiums than in the Aviva. For someone who spends his Sundays in Croke Park, I have to admit the atmosphere is not as good at those games as at soccer games.

People are entitled to their choice and are entitled to follow who they wish without having to be forced to choose or without having to follow some jingoistic nationalist team.

For example, as much as I dislike Liverpool, the singing of "You'll Never Walk Alone" at Anfield beats any singing of our national anthem that I have heard and that stadium would have plenty of people in it who aren't from Liverpool.

It was a lighthearted jibe at the amount of British-born players that have starred for our fair isle's "Boys In Green" over the years. No need to take it so seriously maaan.

Used to be country for me, but it is club now. When growing up away from Ireland I could always see the NT play but I couldn't see Sligo Rovers, so it was always the NT. But I despise the FAI so much now that I honestly couldn't care what happens at international level anymore. I've watched 1 game in the last 18 months IIRC.

Sligo Rovers and HSV will do for me. I follow Gamba Osaka and I had more fun getting up at 5am to watch them play 2nd division football last season than I had watching any Irish game under trap.

Very well observed. However they also have national leagues:
