Confused over multiple recovery partitions

Any idea of the function of these partitions ? New Acer E1 571 {73636G50Mnks}

Windows 8?

My two windows 8 machines have similar multiple partitions, it is most likely to do with updating and troubleshooting as well as system recovery and the restore partition.

Diskpart is your friend here.

Yes W8 to W8.1.
I'm trying to establish which partition is for "factory settings". I intend to fitt an SSD and wish to preserve my roll back. Acer support unable to help., just reminding me that this would void my warrianty!

Acer Recomended method:

Use the following steps to create your backup drive:

1. Press the Windows () key + Q.
2. Type Recovery, and click Acer Recovery Management.
3. Click Create Factory Default Backup.
4. Select Copy content from the recovery partition to the recovery drive, and click Next.
5. Select your USB Flash Drive, and click Next.
6. Click Create. When asked to delete the recovery partition from your computer, click No.

Point 4: Which one is the recovery partition that is embeded in the back up drive for my image for an SSD ?

The samll partitions are recovery disks bootup files and the 15 gig would be the oem recovery partition,Factory reset

thanks for that, so many boot files for what purpose I wonder?

The EFI is used for a mac some kind of media files i think and the other two are recovery disks to repair the laptop just like the repair disc you make with window to help you troubleshoot errors or bootup failures.
