Ireland does not have an National ID card, if you wish to travel outside Ireland you will need a passport. For travel to the UK a driving licence will do if travelling over land or with Aer Lingus or British Airways, for travel with Ryanair you need a passport on all flights on all routes.

Just need ID for the bank and don't want to bother with a passport or driving license at the moment, though as I write a passport might be the best option.
