Canadian SIN application

Hi! I'm going to Canada next week on my 2013 iec visa and was just wondering if anyone who has been through the process already could tell me about the SIN. Did you get one at the airport at immigration? Or is it a case where you need a perm address in Canada before you could apply? Thanks
