HELP!! need help buying a new laptop.. I currently have a Samsung RF711 but its too bulky and heavy and more of a desktop replacement and as a student id like something light and portable.. BUT i would like a laptop that has good performance as well as a decent battery that can last long under heavy usage (4-6hrs).. I mainly browse the web and listen to music but since i am a computer systems student i need something that can handle running programs.

ive a budget between 500 - 1200 but would prefer to have it below 1000.

I dont know if a intel i5 4th generation would be enough

I was looking at Sony Vaio pro 13 and Toshiba M50-11A-C.

Intended use: E.g. college work, internet, e-mail, Word processing, programming, itunes, i also watch videos/movies(screen resolution isnt a bother as long as its good performance and battery)

Mobility: Has long as it isnt a 17inch screen i dont mind but since i am a college student (Computer Systems) id like it to be light enough and protable.. current laptop is 17inch heavy samsung rf711 i7 2nd generation with poor battery

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

17" usually wont equate to Battery performance and light and portable.

Search for the Acer s7 Aspire 391 thread on here. €650ish sent in from USA. One of the nicest looking laptops out there.

Perfect thanks.. I have a 17inch laptop already and by god is it painful dragging it in and out college everyday especially the terrible battery.

    I'll look at that laptop.

    Thanks for the help

I'd look at the Microsoft pro tablets they seem to be very powerful and are really handy and have long battery life

Will the tablet be able for heavy usage though?, I've a few programs I need for college that I don't know how good of a laptop I need.. Programs like QT and net beans which are all programming and I'd have itunes and maybe a browser opened up as well .. I'll check them out

    Thanks.

You'll build a very good spec laptop here with that budget :
