Dogs. Dogs make me TH every day.

I went to the gym and then went for a traipse along the high road where I live, stopped off for a coffee in one of the quaint artisan cafes and there was a little cockapoo hanging out outside waiting for his owner. He looked at me like I was Father Christmas when I was coming out so I bent down and said hello, I can't remember the last time someone was that happy to see me!

    Dogs are the best

    Me too :)

My most recent experience was not so dociile however. In the car park recently a dog left in a Volvo next to my car so I'm all like "hiii cutie" ha ha. The dog was up at the window baring teeth growling and barking. I got some fright. TBF I thin he might've been a rescue though as he kept retreating to the drivers side floor an curling up into a ball.

Hope there was a window left open for it. Maybe just unsocialised? My wee dog is like that as I have always lived alone. She checks out everyone!
The electrician who worked here for the council sussed her out as he has dogs.. He was in an out of the house all day and every time he came in he got barked at and dog put herself between me and him

That the feral cat is now coming fo
r food every day. I hate that clearly he is not getting fed where he lives though but nothing I can doabout that

As soon as I hang out the HOUSE FULL sign? Along comes another...

Happy to be here for them.A privilege

Hmmmm. I wish they would not leave gifts though. Last week there was a large dead rat at the door and today a disembowelled bird.

Freezer was what I missed most in my 5 months without electricity. Well done!
How on earth did you survive the last 5 months without electricity?

I had to go one evening without internet and I nearly went out of my mind :o

TH today by surprise visitors we haven't seen in four years. Spent the day with us and gave us great laughs (and a few tears) as we caught up.

Having a shower and then plonking myself in front of the fire. And knowing I'm off tomorrow and can do whatever I want with the day :D

We hadn't have an inside toilet until I was 28 and no bath until then either. Washing yourself with a bowl of cold water was the norm.

Hence my now daily trivial happiness of having a hot shower. Luxury!

Yes I am, I didn't grow up in the dark ages :p

I just think it's madness that in this day and age someone was left without electricity for five months.

Fair play to Grace. I'm genuinely impressed at her resilience :)

My mother has told me stories about how they had no running water and had to wash in the river, no matter the season and they didn't have electricity. I just thought that kind of thing was in the past and people nowadays have electricity as standard.

Looking back I ask myself the same question! I did not ever imagine it would be that long; I am wiser now as I know more who have suffered the same via the council and ESB.

And I had to grab this place or live in the car.

It was novelty at first and even romantic; a neighbour had rounded up torches and candles etc..

Ordered a gas cooker but that took many weeks to get connected; new regs and they do not like the boat trip.. food was a problem for so long; had a wee camping stove. And I got an extra cell phone ( tesco, E14) so I could farm one out to folk,

Early mornings were the worst as I wake early to read .. took a near tragic brush with hypothermia to worry folk and finally BARRISTER TALK. I have priority as I am disabled and long term sick but you get scared of being evicted. January 14th will be a celebration day here.. oh the internet tool another few weeks of course; bad weather for crossings

    I carried my chromebook everywhere

Sadly I was so long off my email yahoo refuse to let me in and they have confused my rescue address.. Must be 100s of emails in there :(

Amazing what you can do when you have to

And i Still find myself g etting the matches to light the gas stove...

PS. Most things worked; had been empty 5 years. Not the shower and I hate hot rain anyways. MY earliest memories are of sitting in a tin bath by the fire and I would have been 2 or 3 at the time.

The star is the solid fuel stove that heats water. Not good enough to cook on though, this model..

I have been promised ( roflol) a BATH as the bathroom is big enough,, and that they will fix the loo; does work but handle is bust and slow filling and blocks easily,, and plumb in washing machine.. etc etc etc But I am not bothering. I have all I need. Fixed the door etc myself,

And compared with where I escaped from

You do what you have to ..

Ah no. I was offered one place with no power and no water and drew the line at that. Just too far.

I am after all very very old now.... Possibly the oldest on boards, ie ... long long past my threescore years and ten
IN deep rural.. there are many such Some are popular as holiday lets! Back to nature etc!

NB had it not been for our barrister I might still be in darkness

One thing I found hard; no fairy lights at Christmas. I forgot to buy battery ones. An di Invested in a tiny radio; got hooked on Joe Duffy

I’m TH with my house after reading above. Two years ago I was all day drinking when I ordered (drunkenly) a huge rangemaster stove https://goo.gl/images/jFzXrPhttps://goo.gl/images/jFzXrP

I love my comforts. I love that you sink into the couch. I love the open fire in the sitting room. I love that the house is always warm. I love changing things, wallpaper paint cushions etc, brightening the room up with a new rug, or a new pair of curtains. Like srameen, can’t beat a lovely shower wrapping yourself up in a fluffy towel putting on fresh pajamas and jumping into fresh sheets.
Life’s made even better with a few nice candles and a glass of wine.

Built for comfort not speed I was

I'm amazed at the resilience of Graces 7, yet no trace of bitterness or poor me. I also grew up without running water, bathroom, etc. Turning on a tap and getting hot water still delights me. When I inherited this house I was told to knock it, too far gone. Now I'm more than TH that I didn't listen.

Me and my dad left the house at the same, me to go to super value about 30 minutes up road to buy white rolls :3 and him for his walk around the block, when I got back to the estate he was still on his walk and I walked up behind him and said "Hellloooo Johnny" and he freaked "Ohhhh Jesus boi!" I nearly fell over I was laughing so hard :D and when he got back to the house I was teasing him about being a slow poke and he was giving out mad to me "Go way outta that boi will ya!" :D:D.

Good for you! Many far worse off than us.I had been seeking an island rental for a long while as I missed my North Sea home. A roof, sanitation, power ( finally!) and above all the sheer peace of the island . A bed... privacy..

When I saw it it was my last chance and everything fell into place so fast.I was not going to give anything a chance to fall through.. Still have the painting to finish but there is time. And even sorting some garden now. Nothing lacking that I need. Totally nothing lacking.
