Kinda hope Ashley Cole breaks a leg so Luke Shaw gets to go to the world cup. Class player.

Leyton baines is also ahead of him I'd say

Would pull Coutinho off, he's given the ball away too many times. Stick Sterling on and let him use the space on the right.

Not playing well as a team, but being in front makes that pill easier to stomach.

Some really nice play from Southampton at times, and their supporters must be hopeful that their play and pressure will pay off.

Henderson needs to be told where he is playing, its too easy for Southampton to bypass the midfield.

Take cou off for sterling and go 433, current set up isint working tbh.

Some of Southamptons passing has been excellent.

Lallana looks like a classy gent.

    Haven't a clue how we're still ahead.
Coutinho has been ****e but the whole 11 have passed the ball like blind gob****es.

The whole team look like they were out on the lash.

Hopefully Rodgers gives a good HT talk

Southampton really are playing well today. Think were very lucky to be going in at half time with a 1-0 lead.

    Gerrard--Allen
    Hendo
    Sturridge---Suarez--Sterling

    blessed to be winning.

Lallana must think he's in heaven with the space he's getting by just standing there.

A very nervy performance since the goal, Hendo is always in the wrong place.

From what I can see, Henderson is covering the right to help protect Flanagan from Shaw rampaging up that flank

For us to take Henderson out of the centre like that means Coutihno & Allen need to work very hard on the middle to allow Gerrard sit back - they're not doing it, simple as

Coutihno needs to become consistent or he's going to lose out when we look to strengthen further in summer

Haven't really been able to watch but good on the score front so far.

Suarez really left Sturridge hanging with the high 5 at the celebration though....even I felt sorry for him.

Lucas would make a difference today. That space in front of our CB's is where we are struggling (well, one of the areas!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,648 ✭✭✭mav79

With Suarez and Sturridge up top there is no need for the midfield to be so high up the pitch, they are getting in each others way.

Could take any of the midfielders off tbh.

Gerrard isn't exactly busting a gut again, he almost walked back to his position having lost the ball high up and so setting Soton on their way. Lucas cannot get back quick enough.

Extremely lucky to be ahead. Game has a different feel to others when we were conceding chances because you always fancy us to score a hat full but we aren't creating that much today to counter balance it. Hopefully Southampton will tire in the second half as they're working very hard. I'd make changes in shape to make us more defensively solid and play on the counter given that we have the goal and dogging out a result here would be huge in the context of the season.

    Opr

Composure required now. Big second half.

I dont think there is anyone on the bench that will help us defensively either.

Bring Sterling on, Coutinho off.....let Southampton press us high and go long....hurt S'hampton with our pace FM2014 FTW

delighted to be 1 up after the nerves before kick off , not playing great but saints are a very good side, be excellent if we win this

Coutiniho has one good game in every four. Sterling has to be ahead of him in the pecking order. Much more consisting.

I reckon Stevie Wonder would have better passing than our midfield today.

We could do with some of last seasons sterile death by possession style football for about 15 mins to calm things down a bit.

Flanno,GlenJo & coutinho all having shockers

Cole is sitting on the bench for Chelsea. Shaw on the other hand is playing out of his skin but will probably not make the England squad because Woy is an idiot. Not denigrating Cole (he has been one of the best left backs in the world), but Shaw having a place in the squad is the best thing for England.

Well, would ya look at that. We're still sucking.

I agree, Shaw and Baines are ahead of Cole on form but wishing a leg break on Cole is a bit much.
