Why are you putting in the switch?

is it a new immersion or just replacing a faulty switch?

Replacing a faulty switch ever things seems to be working tank is heating up am I right on saying if it was wired wrong it would trip the breaker

yes wiring it wrong could cause a breaker to trip, but it could be wired wrong and still heat too.

    As in what way

Without considering the earth wire, you have two wires going into the switch and three leaving it going to the immersion.

one common error would be mixing up the bath and shower elements, but there are other possibilities too.

Yea bath sink mix up is not too serious.

Mix up neutral with either bath or sink and the thermostat will be out of circuit, which could be dodgy.

As in what way any fault would trip the breaker surely it's seem to be working ok

When wired and not tripping breaker, that wouldn't be proof it is connected correctly.

A photo of connections to switch and someone could confirm.

Once neutral is connected properly, then it should be ok.

As in the neutral coming from the fuse board, did you mean would be proof it's connected right or wouldn't can't post a photo
