Disposing of ashes from fire

    Hi not sure which forum this belongs to but i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what to do with ashes from the fire. It really builds up this time of the year. D'ont suppose i'ts good for anything. Thanks.

    From wood or coal?

    From another forum;
    If the ashes are only from wood then you can put them more or less anywhere in the garden as they will feed the soil, however if the ashes are from coal or turf then only put them where you want to suppress growth as they will kill most things including grass.

    Seems if it's from coal is bad for everything, but wash from wood can be good, once it doesn't touch the stems of plants.

    Its commonly mulched with grass clippings and made into a heavy compost used for gardening etc. Note- no coal ash, no coffee kernels, no tea bags etc.
