I've been using various Wordpress themes to try and achieve a certain look and I've been failing badly.

So now I'm prepared to spend some money to get a theme that I can further customize to get exactly what I want. But where to go?

My question is... its a maze of different vendors/providers out there, are there any particular sites people could recommend? I'm looking for somewhere that is popular, has support, etc.

    Thanks!

There are lots of themes available for WordPress.
    In WordPress repository.

Just Google for premium WordPress Themes.

If you already have a look in mind it can be hard to get just what you want.

Avoid "free" ones not in the repository as they often have malware attached.

Also the more functions that are built into the theme the larger the problems if you decide to change the design in the future.
If you use plugins you are independent of the theme designer.

When you say customise are you referring to functions or looks.

www.themeforest.net is one I will recommend for buying themes from, they have great support and keep updating theme everytime.

But before you buy a theme and you are not sure that purchased theme is best for you or not, then you should try first to download that theme from free theme websites like <deleted> ( from here you can download different themes for free and once you find it is perfect for you, then you can purchase the original version and update that, where you will have support and licence to use that).

Hope this may help you little, if you need some hand on WordPress development, DM

You might want to edit that post and delete the reference to the warez site.

The problem with sites like the one whose reference above has been deleted is that often the stuff you find there can have had malicious code in it. And now your blog, which people will have mentally tagged with your name, is redirecting to some porn site or worse.

    Not really worth it tbh.

Also, this is more web design than development, so moving the thread.

thanks for the deletion, if this is nt good for viewers. But I was just referring as I used couple of themes from there with no problem at all.

Thank you so much for the responses. You can see why I asked, I dont want to blunder into some dodgy rip off site.

I'm a newbie at this (with a fair amount of tech knowledge, I understand HTML a little) and I'm working with a friend who knows a fair amount about Wordpress. I've been trying to achieve a certain look that requires customizing the Header Text font and also the menu bar, fonts and colours.

We've spent a lot of time with WP free themes attempting to mold them into what I want but with no joy. So rather than go hire a professional (my friend would be insulted!) we decided to investigate a (well supported) commercial theme.

ANd just to explain; this is for my professional work portfolio site so I'm pretty uncompromising and unwilling to settle for less.

Woothemes are good as are Elegant Themes
Be careful with the "premium themes" search results - you will find a lot of crud
