Personally I'd genuinely never heard of this not eating meat on Ash Wednesday thing until today.

With a name like beefy you probably just heard what you wanted to hear.

They are made from the burned palms from the previous years Palm Sunday - that's what they're supposed to be made from anyway.

To answer the OP I will be eating meat tomorrow probaby as i'm not religious.

In your opinion its pointless. The poster has said that for a number of reasons, they want to fast.
    Why are you confused?

Obviously it's my opinion, why do people point this out?
Number of reasons? There was one  in that it was always done.

and confused because eating fish isn't fasting.

Of course I'll be eating meat tomorrow, my OH made a big pot of chili today and it's always better on the second day :D

Also, I'm not religious so no justification for *not* eating meat tomorrow.

I supported the fisherman yesterday the pig farmer today and seeing as I have a half pound of mince in fridge I'll support the beef farmer tomorrow by eating 2 fine burgers. More mate as the ould fella used to say.

Tomorrow, I'm going to cover myself in ash and then sacrifice a goat on the Hill of Tara while eating a banana.
    You're a protestant then?

I will be smoking some mackeral and using the remainder for the cross on my head.

I will not be eating meat tomorrow, and I will fast throughout the Lenten period.

Its a solemn time of year for us Catholics. If you want to disrespect that, then go ahead and eat meat, you won't find me complaining.

I have nothing but pity for people who gain some kind of satisfaction in trying to rile up genuinely spiritual people who sacrifice during this time of year.

ah now. don't tar them all with the same brush
One brush is fine if you're on a budget, it's quicker to use a roller but they seem to enjoy it which just takes the fun out of it.

I'm sure the practicing Catholics won't, the a la carte will and everyone else will be BAU

    Yes , I don't believe in catholic tradition .

Eat meat, or don't eat meat, but for the love of God, Allah, Buddha, stop using it as a pathetic excuse for oneupmanship and an excuse to be nasty to be a particular group of people. Says a hell of a lot more about you if you feel the need to announce your protest tbh.

I might eat meat, I might not. So what.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,743 ✭✭✭blatantrereg

Thought the OP said paeleo priests, which made the post more interesting, but also more confusing.

How does my choosing to eat meat have any influence on you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,468 ✭✭✭CruelCoin

Wow, some adults really do think they're being rebels by eating meat tomorrow.

That, and the thread title assumes everyone's a catholic.

There is nothing rebellious about an atheist stating they're going to eat meat. It's a statement of fact, nothing more.

I will eat meat tomorrow, as i like meat with my dinner, no other reason.
(admittedly, it may be a slightly larger and bloodier steak than normal, but anyhoo).

Ye are not Gods, and as such, cannot enjoy breakfast of my liking.

Behold, and forward thee to a Gods breakfast table on wednesday morning.

That was piping hot tasty. :D

The carrots and peas are an odd choice to go with the rashers....

Mind you they do look good. Brand?

Catholicism and spirituality are not the same thing. And avoiding some types of meat but not others on one particular day has nothing to do with spirituality.

    It's Wednesday.

Isn't the no meat rule only on Friday?

On Friday I will eat whatever I feel like, being an equal opportunities lover of beef, chicken and fish (bar tuna, the very smell of which nearly makes me wretch). As Dougal himself once asked about the old rule, are the people who ate mate on the old Friday all still in hell?

I am not Catholic, and never was, so I never observed these rules. I remember when I was younger, getting funny/ shocked looks for having a ham sambo in school.

I forgot to eat pancakes yesterday so I'll eat about 20 of them today,(gotta use up that lemon juice before it expires in 2015) not sure If I'll have any room for meat after that tbh.
