040 Seems to be the main service, but the first bus to Waterford is 07.40 and none till 13.15 nothing around midday when you might be checking out of a hotel.

I think the 370 goes through wexford too.
it takes a bit of a circuitous route to waterford.

there also a fleet line but I think that one just services college times

Yep, route 40 is the main service linking Wexford with Waterford city. It's an Expressway route meaning it only serves the stops mentioned in the timetable and is operated commercially (no subsidy).

The 370 is a subsidised route and is the replacement service for the Rosslare Harbour to Waterford train which was suspended in 2010. It only serves Wexford once a day each way. To Waterford at 14.15hrs from outside Wexford O'Hanrahan rail station. The run through the countryside and villages of South County Wexford is pleasant enough despite some winding and bumpy stretches of road.

A composite timetable can be viewed here.

Possible to save 5% on the ticket price (€11 adult single bought from driver) by buying online.

Depending on where you're staying in Wexford town, there's also a bus stop on Trinity Street as well as the principal stop at the rail station.
