This (folder) is no longer located in....Verify....

When trying to delete a folder from an external hard drive, I'm getting the following message: "This is no longer located in Q:\... Verify the item's location and try again. When I click Try Again, I get the same message. The folder is visible in the HD. How can I force it to delete? Thanks. D.

For the record, rebooting the external HD allowed me to delete the unwanted folder.
