    Hi,

We are looking at importing goods from Switzerland. Has anyone any experience with importing from Switzerland? Is it a difficult process. Looking for any info.

    thanks,

Switzerland is an EFTA country so no duty unless it is perfumes, tobacco or alcohol but you will have import customs clearance and VAT at the point of entry.

Swiss VAT should not be charged on goods that are exported from Switzerland into the Ireland by an Irish Vat registered business. Instead, Irish VAT at the standard rate is normally paid on import at the point of entry, and an Irish VAT-registered business can reclaim that same amount by including it as input VAT credit on their regular VAT return, subject to the normal rules about recovering input tax. Any Swiss VAT that is charged cannot be recovered in the same way.

There is no requirement for a VAT-registered business to account for VAT on imports into the Ireland from Switzerland in the same way as from other EU states.

With the recent change in the Swiss laws regarding free movement of labour all of the above may be subject to change however.
