and no mention of bullet bill t shirt, but uk version include the bullet bill t shirt, blue shell, and you order with gamestop you get bullet bill t shirt, blue shell with mario kart 8 game for limited edition

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,381 ✭✭✭✭Allyall

I think the t-shirt only comes with the nintendo store version

The t-shirt itself seems to be quite pricey - http://www.8ball.co.uk/nintendo-t-shirt-bullet-dude?gclid=CLjL-KTy9L0CFQGJ2wodoQcA3g
But it can be bought on ebay slightly cheaper.

Maybe they are. I thought it was only the nintendo store with that version.

Gamestop have the Limited edition version marked as the same price as the normal version  although the limited edition says OOS.

The free Wheel is a Game exclusive, same as the Bullet Bill t-shirt is a Ninty online store exclusive.

And Gamestop sell PC MMOs who's servers have shut down. And overcharge for pretty much everything.

I'm not saying they're scabby lying bastards, but.... well....

Having said that, the Wheel and T-Shirt may be UK exclusives, freeing Gamestop up to do whatever they like over here.

Edit : Any one see the Mario and Luigi themed MarioKart 8 Wheels and Controller skins on the Ninty Store? Wonder if they'll throw one of those wheels in with the pre-orders or put them on the stars catalogue? They're available seperately on the site for £11.99 - http://store.nintendo.co.uk/wii-u-accessories/wii-u-mario-wheel-red/10944310.html and http://store.nintendo.co.uk/wii-u-accessories/wii-u-luigi-wheel-green/10944312.html for the wheels and http://s3.thcdn.com/productimg/0/180/180/13/10944313-1397722926-196191.jpg and http://store.nintendo.co.uk/wii-u-accessories/wii-u-gamepad-protector-mario/10944311.html for the skins (£17.99)

    o.o

Also, probably like the 3dworld bundle from thehut's nintendo store, buying everything separately will probably be about the same price.

I would imagine those Wheels there will be on Club Nintendos star catalogue soon enough for a shed load of stars though.

Just to dive in here, Hello all by the way - the best place to be slapping down a preorder seems to be Smyths with the blue shell edition aye?

Wondering this myself. Do Smyths take deposits/preorders ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Yeah, but don't bother going in to do so though, just do it online. I found out that if you go in to try to pre-order, they simply put your number into the website reservation thing... >_<

Thanks. Anyone know anywhere I could still pre-order the blue shell edition and still get it release day ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

You may still be able to do that with Smyths, just do the pre-order thing on their website, and they reserve you a copy in the location that you want to get it from.

Can't pre-order the shell bundle on the smyths website :( Only the regular version.

Took a gamble and preordered from the limited edition from Amazon. Could not pre-order from the smyths website so not taking any chances. However if it is there at my local smyths on the day i'll pick it up and return the Amazon one.

    GAME

    Out Of Stock
    Nintendo Online Store
    Smyths (Unknown Status)
    Gamestop
Littlewoods (I wouldn't have used them even if they did have it)

    Not sure about
    TheGameCollection
    GraingerGames

Steelbook Alternative (Without shell :() from
    Amazon.DE

littlewoods is waste of time its too expensive for games it might be about €80 - €90 for mario kart wiiu

since all wii u games there are more expensive up to €20 more then smyths or gamestop or argos

I just noticed if you buy Super Mario Kart on the WiiU eShop you get €7.99 off Mario Kart 8 on eShop. Anyone go for that option ?

    I'm considering it.

I bought Super Mario Kart already, so yeah I think I will.

    Against:
    • It kind of goes against my normal thing of having all the games in physical format.
    • I'll obviously be getting another full game as a free download also, so the hard drive is filling up.
    • It'll still probably be a bit more expensive than a physical copy.
    • No blue shell, no t-shirt, no key ring. :(
    For:
    • I wont have to get up and change the disk to fire this one up.
    • It'll be a hidden purchase. The string of Wii U parcels arriving has impacted on domestic harmony. (Even if I get to the post first, the toddler finds the obviously new game later and waves it dramatically around the place).
    • Oh, and it's protected from toddler damage.
    • I can get it day one.

Almost my thoughts EXACTLY. If you buy MK8 from the eShop do you still get the free game ?

Not having to swap discs would be great BUT would love to own it physically. ofc ... I can always pick up a physical MK8 copy anytime I want down the road. Not blue shell etc... does suck though.

Still torn but I think I might go digital.

I've been considering it too. Of all games, Mario Kart makes the most sense to have instantly playable. Also, the free Super Mario Kart is a nice plus.

However, there's an odd sadness about not having the new Mario Kart in a box :(

All the bundles available online at nintendo (Blue Shell Gone). I didn't realise that the Mario/Luigi Gamepad protectors were available to buy separately..

OK, stop me if this is mental

    Buy MK8 on eShop
    Register, receive free game.
    Buy MK8 on disc
Take disk out of box, put into generic box, sell it on second hand (Private Sale for €35ish for just the disk, €15 for the stars?) and mitigate the cost that you've just paid for the box.
And if it makes you feel better, copy the download and your save onto a memory key that will fit in that box - Job done!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,565 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Just thinking about my Smyths preorder. Since all they do is enter the number on their site, are you guaranteed a copy of the limited edition and could they change the price?

Seems like a lot of work to me.. Two MK8, sell one and get the two free games?

This was a method to buy the eShop game but still have the box on your shelf while minimizing your costs. For this guy.

Not to get 2 free games. Don't be absurd! :D

Voice in my head says "get a physical copy" but ordered a 32gig stick for my WiiU last night just in case this might be the first full game I download. Worst case scenario, I have lots o room for my other eshop games.

dont ghost data, from Mario kart 8, wifi play and Mario kart 8 tv, mario kart 8 game data, they cost storage 2, so physical game makes more sense and practicing on mario kart wii with wheel controller helps you to perform stunts which increase your speed, i pretty sure going a lot players out across the world going masters at the wheel, so you better practice mario kart wii, mario kart 8 tournaments

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,507 ✭✭✭nitromaster

Definitely going for digital. Had Super Mario Kart on Wii (for free via that referral promo ) so will upgrade that and get a discount on Mario Kart 8. Coupled with getting €10 off eshop cards with that tesco promotion a month ago accepting Aldi vouchers, plus the Digital Deluxe Promo it's a no brainer for me :P

AND i get a free extra game too? Gonna start running out of room soon I think :pac:

The only thing with going digital is that I have limited plug sockets by the telly, so plugging in the HDD (I've heard that bus powered drives have a tendency to slowly murder your Wii / Wii U) means juggling plugs before and after the play session. That means getting out of my chair. What's the point of having a remote for turning on the WiiU??? God damn it!

Being installed on the ext. HDD is the reason Monster Hunter and W101 don't get played much, not sure I want to condemn MarioKart to that.

I'm tempted to get a cheap USB stick, which aren't recommend but work fine apparently - they just may or may die quickly due to the amount of read/write requests :pac: I didn't hear that "bus powered drives have a tendency to slowly murder your Wii / Wii" thing though, you sure they didn't mean the drive? Receiving power non-stop while the console is in standby might damage the drive but shouldn't affect the console...

Have you already filled the internal? Or are you using a basic? Think I'll manage yet but might get a 16/32GB stick and just juggle content between that and the internal when needed, so whatever I'm currently playing is on the console.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,485 ✭✭✭✭Banjo

Assassin's Creed 3 is 21GB - Many USB sticks gave up their free space as lifeboats when that went on special on the eShop.... I could move it I guess, but that would take ages and involve plugging the hard drive in :)

The bus powered thing was mentioned a lot with the Wii and a number of the "3rd party hard drive solutions" (don't ask and we wont get into trouble :D) available for it. The power supplied on the USB ports was barely up to spec, with many bus powered drives requiring a Y dongle to use 2 ports for power. A number of users reported that prolonged use often led to graphical corruption, tearing etc. which, conjecturally, was attributed to the power drain caused by the drive effectively leaving the console with insufficient juice for itself. It had also been referenced as a contributing factor to Wii failure, but again there was no concrete evidence that I've seen (not that I'm massively into the scene or anything, but I did a bit of reading before I dabbled). Given the WiiU has the same bus power restrictions as the Wii, I'm superstitious about putting too much load on it unnecessarily.

Oh no, the TV is broke (fiddles with the TV controls on gamepad)... go tidy your room or something, Daddy needs to do his exercises, which involve staring at this black plastic rectangle and twisting it around for a few hours while muttering 'son of a beeswax!' every few minutes. No, don't come over here and look at the rectangle, you wouldn't like it... it makes you smell like sprouts. GET OUT!"

Or I could just leave the disk in the drive. But I prefer the manipulative borderline slave labour approach. That's why we have kids in the first place, right?
