Has anyone on here made themselves a tyre-changer? Thinking about building something along the lines of one which has a hydraulic bead breaker, and hydraulic wheel clamp, and which you use a bar against a central column to pull the tyre on and off. Any thoughts, or just bite the bullet and buy something second hand?

Have something similar that I made years ago, the bar against the central column works well to lever off the tyre and is a great job for steelies, but it is difficult to manage alloys without damaging/scratching them.

I've fixed plenty of punctures with mine but in the last few years with alloys everywhere its gotten less use, only really use it now on the trailer wheels.

By the time you factor in time, materials and labour it will be better and cheaper to buy a 2nd hand unit.
