How to cash a cheque without lodging it to my account?

Hi. I have an overdraft on my bank account. if I cash a cheque I fear it will just pay the overdraft and I won't get any money from the cheque. How can I cash a non-social welfare cheque without lodging it to my account? thanks

Do a quick search on the forum. Been covered many many times.

If its crossed then you can not cash it.
