hi im looking for help ,we fostered a small dog few weeks back and we were delighted with him .unfortunately one day the door was open he made a bolt for the door ..
after putting it up on few face book pages we located the whereabouts of the dog .,thanks be to god she was still alive . but unfortunately we cannot catch the dog . we go over every day to feed dog but he wont take food from us .she became very clever and will come back to food few hrs later . next morning we go over again an food is gone ..
we've tried dog warden ,but unfortunately when he wen over the dog wasn't there . we have also tried animal welfare with no luck ..
we have even got a sedative from vet thinking we might be able to knock her out
we are desperate to get the dog back ,we feel our only option is a dog trap of some sort .has anybody got any contacts or know anybody who would rent one to us .. please if you can at all thanks in advance

    Whereabouts are you located?

Be careful with the sedative, the last thing you want is a woozy dog wandering onto the road.

When you say a sedative, I presume you put it in the food?

yes we explained our situation to our vet and he gave us a tablet, we were very careful not to give it to the dog if we weren't there .so we waited till the dog was on the grounds where she is staying and then put it in some dog food ,we waited an waited but it didnt seem to have any effect on dog . we did explain to vet about size an weight of dog so he knew what he was giving us

Contact your local gun club, explain the situation and ask to borrow a fox trap.

Sedatives need to be given in high dose, and you need to give the dog about 4 hours to really sink into the sedation.
OP, I have a number for a fella who specialises in trapping dogs in precisely the situation you're in. He has a range of traps and has been called in by a number of rescue groups over the years. He's a very nice man indeed. I'll pm you his number when I'm home later.

that would be brilliant.hopefully he could shed some light on the situation .the dog is just to clever at this stage for normal catching .def needs some type of trap

No it was up the country an it would be bit awkward , warden was over during week but typical that the dog wasn't there .

The dog is in their name though right? They should be informed. They might know someone local to you

We took the rescue dog on through a friend . Not really from a reg. dog trust or anything so that's a non runner . The dog was mis treated for a long time and a friend rescued it got it chipped and neutered . An we offered our help .
