Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It was clearly totally accidental & his arm was in a totally natural position. As such is it not the correct call?

Up to the ref to make that call, that's the point. He just ignored it. As Paully D says, ignore it and they don;t have to make the call, right or wrongly

Hand ball is hand ball when it denies a goal scoring opportunity regardless of hand position in relation to the body!

No your wrong . There is accidental hand ball , if the ball is blasted at your hand or it's down by your side then you can't give a penalty free kick or card . If you arm is out stretched or not in a natural position then it's hand ball and should be punished .

Kagawa on for Rooney please. It actually upsets me that he'll leave United because Rooney plays.

i know its the daily mail but
Regarding handball they now ask the referee to consider the proximity of the potential offender to the person last playing the ball, the speed of the ball and importantly whether the offender's arms are in a natural or unnatural position.
So the question of intent is now, did the offender deliberately place his arms in an unnatural position to increase the chances of the ball hitting him?
If the answer to that is yes then it is correct to penalise that player even though it used to be argued that was ball to hand.

Been head and shoulders above the rest tbh, looking forward to seeing him play for the next few season at United.

There were a clear difference between them, keeper went to kick the ball and missed and it bounced up.

Januzaj tried to gain advantage with controlling the ball with his hand

It bounced up and hit his hand, outside the box. If it happened a player in midfield it would have been a free. Januzaj's tried to control with his upper arm, didn't think it warranted a yellow card, possibly a free at worst.

As the game goes on west brom will open up to try and get the goal, which is the perfect time to pick them apart rather than constantly giving it out wide slowing the play down

At some stage RVP or Rooney need to make way for Kagawa, West Brom will score I think

Was handball but it wasn't deliberate.

The vast majority of handballs aren't deliberate.

I think the ref got it right myself
    Rules back him up too.

Upper arm is still a hand ball and deliberate hand ball is a yellow card so ref had no choice their other one was more accidental, but refs are not going to call that on a keeper

One of the things I like about the soccer forum is the lads here arguing that it was accidental and not a free will almost certainly have argued the complete opposite on another incident at some stage of their posting history.

It's just pointless arguing it in here.

Well the rules state handball should only be called when it is deliberate.

Well let's wait and see how many free kicks are given for "accidental handball" this weekend!

There should be common sense used, as most top referees do. A ball blasted at a players arm from 4 yards, or a funny deflection, shouldn't be called for handball. However in this instance it was coming from a long way away, and solely the keepers clumsiness caused the handball. Therefore his own fault and a free kick

This is one of those incidents where the ref should come out after the game and explain his decision.
As much to clarify his interpretation of the law and explain but also to be accountable for what he has decided

Saw this stat, didn't realise Rooney's contribution had been so poor.

1 goal and 0 assists in 582mins in all competitions since returning from his groin strain.

Not every handball given is deliberate, refs seem to pick and choose

Is it just me, or did that actually look like a good tackle? Nicked the ball away from the West Brom player.

Yeah, you can see the frustration. Ref bottled it again, should have been a second yellow

Should have been 2nd yellow there for him

Would have been very harsh to send him off for those 2 tackles.

A tackle which should have gotten a second yellow.

    Great covering by Mata.

Jaysus,in slo-mo RVP got the ball in that tackle.

West Brom have had more chances

Moyes has not followed how the plot of this season has gone, we are going to concede

RVP got the ball for that 2nd incident. The commentary team spouting ****e as usual

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,949 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Thought the tackle was alright myself. Knicked the ball and didn't leave a trailing foot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,012 ✭✭✭✭titan18

So, what minute ye all got West Brom to equalise?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 54,652 ✭✭✭✭Headshot

Biggest problem we have yet again is we cant keep the ball. Just makes so much sense now to take RVP off, move Rooney up front and bring on Kag

It comes down to a lack of consistency I guess. If referees were to only give handballs that were actually indeed deliberate, there would be an extremely small amount of handball decisions awarded.

Take penalty decisions for example. How many times do players that concede penalties from handballs actually purposely handle the ball? Not often IMO.

I'd still take him off, it wasn't the greatest decision to make that tackle after just being booked.
