US license holder needing car insurance

    What documentation do I need to provide car insurance companies to secure motor insurance. Full US drivers license today, lived in US for last 20 years, do they contact dept of motor vehicles in the US to verify license history? Had DUI in early 2010, does this mean they will not insure?
