Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

First time buying a bike or any motor at all.

Lets say im happy with it and it checks out good. Have a lad here to check it out so that side of it is fine.

So i just hand over the money and what happens with the logbook? Do i sign it then they post it? I just get the new logbook in a few days?

Is there not a part on the logbook where you sign and seller signs then tears of a part, you hold onto that part and he sends the rest of it off?

no but take a photo copy or picture on your phone with both sides of the log book.

The Irish system is different to the UK.

Just check chassis match and water marks are on log book.

Best of luck with your new bike.

That would make perfect sense alright. Pity its not like that.

Cheers everyone for the advice. We have to start somewhere.

There is a slip about an inch wide on the log book with a perforated edge. you tear this off as your receipt. it is in the interest of the seller to post the logbook as if you're caught speeding etc, they will get the penalty points.

no harm getting a receipt and photo too.

That slip you refer to is just for the address of the owner when it is being posted out originally amd nothing else.

Op as was already said check the chassis numbers match, take a pic of both sides and the seller sends it off.

Log books have a security feature on the reverse side under where you sign. There is a circle a kimd of purple colour that you press with your thumb and hold for a few seconds, when you release it the colour will have changed and will then turn back to the original in a second or two. Always worth checking

Never heard of or remember that? Something the original owner tears off and gives to you? Are you sure?

Anyway, OP: you basically fill out your name and address on their logbook, as the new owner, and it's the seller's responsibility to post it. Then you receive a new logbook via post in a few days.

But as someone else said, it is in the interest of the seller, usually, to send it ASAP -- otherwise you could commit crimes that they get blamed for.

All the above, and try to get the bike at his home address instead of some car park in the middle of no where. Alot of people are insisting that the seller bring a passport or drivers license because of all the bikes and cars getting sold that are "STOLEN". Even if you hand over the money and bike is robbed you are getting STUNG my friend.

I've always taken it or handed it over when a car or bike has changed hands. As aakev said though it's not for that. There is a perforated edge though and as it has the sellers name and address on it at least the is some information to get you started.
