Careful when used pallets as a lot of them have been heavily treated with pesticides, insecticides and preservatives. The heat treated (marked HT) ones could be ok but you never know what was the previous use of the pallet and other chemical could have been absorbed by the wood. So if you work on pallets use a good dust mask and work outside.
I did use pallets for a while for lot of projects until I started to think about it...
