    Hey all,

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I have just finished creating my first android game that I want to add to google play. I have an ad supported version and an add free version which I aim to charge for. I have everything set up and good to go. The question I have is, when registering for a google merchant account, it looks for business name and address, do I have to have a registered business with the cro in Ireland to be able to sell apps on google play?

Thanks in advance anyone who can shed any light!

    Hi Sourcream,

Congrats on finishing your game. Be sure to link us to your work when you get it up.

My area of interest is desktop, so my knowledge of android apps is sorely limited. AFAIK, registering with CRO is only registering a business name, as opposed to forming a company in that name, as either a sole trader or limited company. Basically, I'm not sure if registering will satisfy the requirements of the store. I'm also not sure if you can get away without doing this, in the case you want to test the water before committing.

If you do need to set up a company, Sole Trader is easier and less expensive to set up. LTD company offers limited liability and generally better tax management, but more admin. I also think I read somewhere that sole traders can't use their business name in some digital distributors (have to use your own name) as you are a person trading under a name, rather than an actual company.

Anyway, hopefully someone with more knowledge in this area will drop in and help out.
