Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I can feel your presence Utd fan. Ready to lol at our lols. Desperate for a turnaround in fortunes. Well here it is: a chance to shoot a big gaping hole in our title credentials while also providing yourselves with the slightest of outside chances at 4th place.

    Will it be:

    hi-res-158855079_crop_north.jpg?w=630&h=420&q=75

    or:

    Fernando%20Torres%20terrorises%20Nemanja%20Vidic%20and%20scores%20twice%20in%20a%204-1%20Liverpool%20win%20at%20Old%20Trafford%20in%202009-1526150

Remember, the real battle is fought here - not on the pitch.

I smell blood. As long as our centre halves don't implode, I reckon a Pool win by the odd goal in three.

    5 days before the match?

Ye're all getting one warning, first sign of trouble it'll be locked up until the morning of the match, play nicely.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,136 ✭✭✭✭Rayne Wooney

    Dis gon' be good

I'll keep predictions until I see the team sheet but if Valencia, Young, Welbeck or Cleverley are on United will be massacred.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,606 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

As I said in the United thread...

Both teams have great attacking options and leaky defences, so if Moyes goes for this, could be a 7 goal wonder :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,017 ✭✭✭Chagan

If this thread makes it to Sunday in one piece we can be proud of ourselves.

This is one of the few times this season that I've been genuinely excited about a United game. That usually means a loss is on the cards.

G'wan, do it, for our collective sanity.

    ==============================

Before that I'll get my 2c in. This will still be a really difficult game to call, and could go either way, despite what the form book says really. If Liverpool can manage to not be idiots at the back though for a change, this is the best chance we've had for a win at OT since the big win 5 years ago.

A utd win (or even draw realistically) would end Liverpool's outside chance of the title, which in itself should be enough motivation. There should be a cracking atmosphere anyhow, and hopefully this thread won't be the expected car crash until at least the game starts.

this thread will end in tears an carnage!
i predict a new record for banning's with maybe even a Mod quitting.

the match will end in a draw a dull over hyped painful to watch draw.

Its quite nice to be quite relaxed about this game, a win is unlikely to spur Utd into a charge for the final CL spot but it could make Spurs united in their quest to get the better of Arsenal in the late KO next Sunday as they will know the result of course.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,224 ✭✭✭barone

a must win for both teams .. slagging rights, cards, tension, fights .. be great ..then there's the match

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,136 ✭✭✭✭Rayne Wooney

It would be naive to think going 8 points behind with 9 games left won't give the players some hope and at least spur them on to make the 4th place team work hard until the last day for the spot.

You're looking at it from the wrong perspective. This is not a Liverpool fan match thread as much as it is a Utd hater match thread. And, as per the below, my record is 100% on that front:

I don't think anyone is reallllly serious about the 'title challenge', yes we're currently up there but Chelsea and Man City are clearly above us in the running.

Sunday's game could very well end the title talk if its a United win or a draw, Liverpool win and it'll still be a title challenge

    Could go any way.

Form doesn't matter in these games. Whoever wants it more on the day (and maybe a little luck)

Don't miss this season's Man United Vs Liverpool, featuring favourites such as
    • "World class? Define world class..."
    • "Not world class? Define world class..."
    • "I'd take maybe 3 of them lot on our team, and that's being generous"
    • "He dragged his other leg"
    • "The difference is, when Roy Keane made that tackle..."
    • "It wasn't a dive, it was exaggerated contact"
    • "Are you for real, Tony Hawks can't spin that many times in mid air"
    • "FFS Skrtel"
    • "FFS Giggs"
    • "Dominated? I don't know what half you just watched"
    • "Ugh, we're going to concede any second"
    • "LOL!"
    • "FFS, told you"
    • "Til next year

What's with the quotes? I'm an united fan and I've always said it,since November, that pool have every chance.

My money is on Chelsea but they're not invincible and neither is city or arsenal, by any stretch.

Tbh I'd give up the short term thrill of beating Liverpool this weekend (which would be nice obv) for a 3-0 nil in the CL next week. Bar a miracle we ain't getting 4th. Our season rests on the CL game not on the Liverpool league game.

Can a match thread reach 10,000 posts?

Can see this being a high scoring draw.

This is basically like a cup final for United. I think this will be a very tricky fixture for that reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,066 ✭✭✭Washington Irving

Normally Liverpool would brush sides of this level aside, but Man U will be sure to put in a good performance as it's their cup final. Could go either way but I think Liverpool will have enough attacking quality to edge it. 5-7.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,631 ✭✭✭✭Hank Scorpio

All depends on the lineup Moyes picks for the game. If he goes the Clev/Carrick/Young/Valencia midfield Liverpool will rip United apart. If he starts with a combination of Adnan/Fellaini/Mata/Rooney/RVP/Shinji in the midfield/attacking areas united have a great chance to win. Going to be a cracker

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,477 ✭✭✭✭Knex*

Don't get too worked up about the game lads, just make sure we win the match thread.

That's what the mods want to hear, right?
