Quite a lot of things work very well in a cold buffet.

    Sandwiches of all kinds
    Cocktail sausages
    Sausage rolls
Smoked salmon and cream cheese on brown bread
    Smoked salmon pate
    Pork pate
    Quiche
    Hummus and crudites
    Guacamole and corn tortilla chips
    Cheeses, chutneys, fruit and crackers
    Charcuterie - cured meats etc.
    Fresh braguette

If you go ahead with sandwiches, make sure they're cut up into triangles, they taste better that way.

We have quite a big family with young children so whenever theres an occasion we generally always cater for it ourselves in one of our homes.
After years we've copped that cold meats such as turkey and ham, a big bowl of our home made coleslaw and a bowl of mixed salad (mine is lettice, sun dried tomato and red oniom) and fresh homemade brown bread goes down a treat. We used to make bowls of other salads, small amounts would be taken but they would always be left over at the end of the day. I'm doing my nephews communion in may and I'm going with the above, plus 2 other large salad bowls (I'm thinking a satay carrot coleslaw I spotted recently and another mixed salad with lots of peppers, dressing and rice/ cous cous), a small plate with sliced beef tomatos, a cheese plate and homemade chicken wings.
My sister is also doing curry and rice.
