...has apparently been given the green light for three new seasons.

    Do you think it should?

Yes it's great! Around 10 seasons seems to be limit for sitcoms, so I doubt there will be any more after that.

yes I think so. I hated it when it first came out I never gave it a chance really . but it grew on me and I like it . I just accept its a light hearted sitcom. I won't pmsl at it but its grand :)

I think it's got better with the addition of Amy and Bernadette. Amy is brilliant.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,629 ✭✭✭Hunchback

I rarely RARELY pmsl when I'm watching it. It's more just like a program that's pleasant to watch , just like the little goldfish in my fishtank are pleasant to watch. Or a nice glowing fire. You just look at them and spaz out. Amy makes me chuckle occasionally.

    Sometimes it's REALLY bad though.
So yeah, the only thing is, for every extra series we have to watch each episode repeated every hour on the hour for the next seven years, and seeing how 9 out of ten telly programs are already TBBT I don't know if I could handle that

I never got into this show :(

    Hate Amy and Squeaky Bernie!

Yeah why not. It's a good Thoughtless sitcom that you can watch when you're wrecked and eating dinner.

It's not a favourite of mine but it does no harm to me. I think Sheldon is a great character and he sets it above shows like Mike & molly and 2 & half men(since Charlie left)

Three more seasons seems a little mad. While the last few episodes haven't been bad, in general it has been getting pretty stale. Such a long renewal might give them the space to experiment a little more and shake things up, but it's not very likely.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 944 ✭✭✭jenjenten

its printing money....like friends, and lets face it....since season 4 the show basically is friends!
remember those incrediably written scripts from the first thre seasons....the science, that took research and skill.

Think it passed its peak a season or so ago. Rarely bother watching it these days.

tell 2.5 men that, renewed for a 12th season today,

the show pulls in 19 million viewers a week, so yes it was totally deserved, the great thing about very popular things is that they are equally hated for their popularity,

It's the top rated show on US television and will probably get another 3 season renewal at the end of season 10 if the ratings are as good as they are now. Not really sure why this renewal has surprised some people.

people are pretending to be surprised because the hip thing is to hate the show

i've friends who were well into it when it first came out, but wouldn't be caught dead watching it now

I love it.I find that the further an individual season goes on the more I laugh so I assume its down to getting back into the swing of the humour and the characters in the show.

I liked the addition of Amy and she provided my favourite line in the shows history.

If only Bernadette didn't have such an annoying voice. Also they could be doing much more with Raj now that he can talk to women.

she doesnt have that voice in real life. don't know why its done because it really is annoying

they're too busy with the Raj is gay jokes to have him go near other women

It gives her more character and also fits her quirky personality

Shows that should be axed or at least removed from the e4 schedule

    How I met your mother
Two and a half men (Not on e4 but I hate that show. Watched it for 50 seconds once wasn't funny)
    Hollyoaks
    Glee
    90210

    I don't mind TBBT

Amy is definitely the star of the show. The Leonard Penny deal is just annoying, though they had an affair in real life apparently.

It makes her the most annoying character on the show. Quirky does not mean you have to sound weird.

season 10 should be the end....but if the paychecks are enough it could go 12.

yup...probably the most unshocking news ever...i am sure if the actors would commit and sign for 5 more seasons CBS would have paid them.

the reason CBS do these deals is profit....its cheaper in the longer term to get a 3 year deal, they get better deals then from syndication and selling abroad. the more episodes they have the better then deal.

they are paying 5-6 million per episode, so they must be getting at least 8 to 10 globally in the long term.

    $$$

    watch it for penny alone!

the only thing im worried about was that after the last multiseason renewal the show took a rather large dip in quality, its bounced back nicely last season and has maintained a high standard this season, but i do worry that the writers get complacent when they know their jobs are secure,

its also funny at how little a care for leonard and penny yet they get paid more than howard and raj get paid when howard and raj are probably the 2 best characters in the show, they seem to get way more screen time than leonard and penny do these days,

Can see them doing an episode/angle next season where Dr Gablehauser leaves and either Sheldon or Bawwy Kwipke gets the promotion to head of the physics department.

I agree with this. I have a strange compulsion to watch but I rarely laugh. I think that it's what you might call, 'lifestyle porn', watching people live this very ideal life even though they pay lip service to many things under many the nerd-dom umbrella. It's very like Friends except it has geeky references added.

everyone hates the big bang theory since it became a big success, which oddly happens to every single show that has ever been a massive success,

Because every show that becomes a massive success, instead of being allowed to go out in a blaze of glory, or come to a dignified finish at the end of its natural lifetime, is injected with huge doses of experimental chemicals to keep it alive until it gradually degenerates into a sorry shadow of its former self, ultimately dying alone in a corner, unloved and unwatched, in silence but for the cruel jeers of its once adoring fans.

well the show has gone from a coal fired steam engine to a well oiled formula 1 car, in terms of viewership, started with 8 million odd viewers in season 1, to its now dominate number one watched show in america with near 20 million viewers, the show is far from coming to any kind of a conclusion, never mind a natural or unnatural one,

ill admit i hated Bernadette and Amy when they initially entered the show, the show did take a dip in quality for a season or 2 after they entered, but i have come to enjoy the change in dynamics their characters have brought to the show, and also its not all nerd joke nerd joke, inside nerd joke, super nerd joke, its a bit more balanced, like amy and pennys problem in the last episode, rajs increased female interactions and less reliance on walowitz, the show is simply evolving into a better show in my opinion, and the ratings are simply indicating that,

im not saying the show should compared to other shows like Breaking Bad and The Sopranos, but it's the type of show that will attract a wide ranging audience, and this building hatred for it is simply down to its popularity, more than the quality, the show is more negatively commented on than positively commented on it seems,

Have to say, I thought this was some of the best comic humour I've seen in a long time & goes to show how professional they are, Parsons in particular for memorising all that.
