    Once.

And that was once too often.

The art critic Brian Sewell hit the nail on the head when he was once asked what could be done to improve Middlesbrough's reputation and appearance.

    His response - "Bomb it".

    I would.

It's the town that time forgot. A sullen, backwards, miserable place with gombeens for locals.

    Best avoided.

I don't know how anyone could find this funny. It's horrific stuff the poor guy is now badly mutilated for the rest of his life and has basically had his sex life taken away from him.

The psychological trauma of that would be really bad.

Not to mention that it's an unthinkably painful injury and it's probably going to have major practical consequences for him in terms of urological functions and he also could have bled to death.

Are some of you so immature that you find the word 'penis' hilarious?

Also a double standard applies ... If this was a woman who had been attacked in a similar way, there would be calls to bring back hanging!

We have to stand up for guys too. This guy has been horrendously sexually assaulted and mutilated.

Can you a imagine if a woman was found at the side of the road with her breasts and clitoris cut off, don't think the jokes would be as free flowing.

I have it on good authority that was to be a verse in John Lennon's classic.

What's weird is they found none of those attacked brought charges against their attacker. TBH if a woman cut my dick off I'd likely be up on a murder charge when I came out of the hospital.

Social pressure can be a very strong thing. Maybe they thought they 'deserved it'.

Also, what can you do without a penis? Can you still ejaculate/have sex?
Apparently. But the real issue is, why would a woman do this and what would you do to a woman who did this? Alright, no woman might have been involved, but still, feminazis, eh? They're the real issue in this case where it seems that the perpetrator was a man. You can't let so-called "women" off the hook.

    That's kind of random...

It's interesting how when anything happens to a man a bunch of men come along and make tasteless jokes and then say how if it happened to a woman that those jokes wouldn't be made.

So guys, if you don't like the jokes, stop f*cking making them!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,628 ✭✭✭Femme_Fatale

To be fair, I don't think the guys who criticise the jokes are the same guys who crack the jokes.

I can't see a funny angle either. I know not everyone agrees but IMO not everything is fair game for joking about.
There wouldn't be jokes if a woman's genitals were butchered. In the unlikely event of there being such a joke in that context, it'd be admonished.

I heard that John Bobbitt is marrying a woman who suffers
from bulemia. It's a perfect match. She can't keep anything
down, and he can't get anything up.

John Wayne Bobbitt has a new career...Stand Up Comedy...I have to
admit that it's an ironic choice of career considering all the jokes
    about his...ahem past.
Well, that and for a while there I thought I'd never hear the name
John Wayne Bobbitt and the words 'Stand Up'...used in the same sentence.

[MOD SNIP: No need to quote the whole thing]

What did Lorena serve Bobbitt over the holidays?
    Sliced bananas.

What kind of prosthetic device will they fit Bobbitt with?
    A woodpecker.

I know, but guys are reading what seem to be other guys posts and then acting like it's girls making these jokes. It's not just this thread, it's every thread like it and every news site with comments sections - guys whinging about infringement on their human rights when it's their own gender taking the piss most of the time.

Yeh I don't see people on this thread blaming the jokes on women/feminists.

It can happen the odd time when gender double standards are brought up, but definitely no posts blaming women on this thread.

It's not just that some of the jokes in response to this are tasteless but the majority of them are just genuinely not funny. Most of them are just bad puns which probably had the poster chuckling away to themselves as they think about how clever they have been. In reality they're just cringey to read.

    Some examples:

    "A half cocked story."

"I guess they were just taking the mickey?"

"Bet he wasn't feeling cocky when the police discovered him."

"Willy be able to re-member is the important question here."

Seriously, does anyone actually find these funny?

Apparently a traveller gang did this, the chap had apparently messed around with one of their women.

Sounds like something a Mexican cartel would do, a wild and depraved act.

On a more serious note, he's never going to be able to engage in any sexual activity for the rest of his life which for any man is a horrifying prospect and one that will undoubtedly lead to major psychological trauma.
Then as someone else said there's the urological effects which might be corrected somewhat by surgery but again I imagine would cause psychological distress to a man.
He could so easily have bled to death from that or died from infection soon after.

I'm not actually really annoyed about the jokes, they're just a bit shiit, its the double standard that the mods won't sanction these comments where as in the opposite case (very serious sexual mutational of a woman) there would be a nice big mod warning by on the first page by now

I presume you and other posters who find other posters comments objectionable have reported the posts? The fact that you place more importance on gender equality and equal treatment rather than the incident itself is quite telling of what matters more to you - it isn't the victim of a vicious assault, it's the fact that other people don't treat it the same as an assault on a woman.

Here's one to stick in your equality pipe and have a ponder about - If you think women who have been victims of violence and assault aren't subjected to derision and ridicule just the same as a man who is the victim of violence and assault is subjected to derision and ridicule, well, you'd be wrong.

The thoughts of living without a penis is horrifying, poor guy. To add to his trauma his injuries are merely a joke to most who hear about it.

It makes you wonder how society evolved to such a position that male genital mutilation is so funny.

Has it ever been any other way on Boards?

Certain mods would have been falling over themselves if this was a thread about a woman that had been left bleeding on the side of the road, after having had her genitalia butchered, and then users saw fit to start posting jokes about it.

We all know that had the sex of the victim being female here, certain users (they know who they are) would have been all over this thread demanding moderation of the jokes (and rightly so) but isn't it odd that they don't ever seem to get so offended when the jokes are about a man in a similar predicament? Think that tells you all you need to know about those people and what makes them tick.
    Rhotheta wrote: »

    I don't wonder tbh.

I think it is very obvious how and why western society has evolved to the position that it is currently in, and has been for quite some time actually. Already the word "whinge" has been used to refer to men who complained about the jokes and yes, it was said by another man, but that just shows you how deep the issue is, when men themselves, have little or no empathy for other men who have been victims of sexually mutilation.

There was a thread recently where the OP's contention was that men were being emasculated in western society, but I have to respectfully disagree with them, even though I did also once think the same myself. You see, it's not the emasculation of men that we need to worry about at all, it is in fact, the dehumanisation of them.

Its pretty self evident its horrific attack, a few other posters have made this point I've thanked those posts. I'm not sure what difference me stating that again will make its not like the victim is going to be reading this thread.

In real life and media outside the less moderated parts of the net IMO not to the same extent, I won't deny it occurs but mainly what you hear is abstract jokes not ones referencing a real life incident.

Regardless of what the circumstances were, nothing justifies what could only be described as an utterly sickening, twisted and mutulating sexual assault.

Of course its not a zero sum game and people with a bit of sense decry this sort of violence regardless of gender. BUT there is a differing level of how serious these sort of comments are taken depending on gender and yes I am aware that most of those making the comments are men but thats aside the point if we're looking at the response in terms of moderation.

Fair enough. FWIW I did the same shivering leg-crossing yelp as I do when reading about FGM and yes, I do think those warnings and general decency should apply regardless of sex. I was responding to a post that was trying to shoe-horn in an agenda about the wider role of men in society, which I don't think is relevant.

    Yes and..?

I never said, nor suggested, that no woman had condemned the jokes, so your pointing out that one had, does nothing other than imply I said something which I hadn't, but what's new around here.

What I actually said was, that those who would usually have been on the thread by now, reporting such jokes, were no where to be seen and as of now, that still stands. Heck, if this thread was about a woman that had been sexual mutilated, and no moderation of the jokes had taken place, or at least a warning given regarding them, there would have been a Feedback thread by now complaining about it, and as I also said: 'rightly so'.
It is perfectly possible to decry jokes about both sexes suffering violence. It's not a zero-sum game.

Of course it is possible. If it wasn't possible, I would hardly be complaining about those that don't, now would I. That's the point. I'm sorry you missed it.

Also, of course there are some users that do complain about these type of tasteless jokes being made, no matter the sex of the victim (I was one of them, regularly) but such users are few and far between, unfortunately. The users that I am complaining about (and no, I won't be naming them) never show up, other than perhaps to make a token post, or thank one, to make it appear as if they they care but they never show a true sense that they are genuinely upset or angered, or at least no where near the degree they would be where the sexes reversed.
I'd be more sympathetic if you had the guts to name these mods posters who you think don't care about teh menz.

You patronizingly use misspelled words to imply a lack of intelligence. An old tactic, but becoming more and more common again of late, I see. It's generally done to discredit a valid opinion. It's a lazy and quite obnoxious way of attempting to discredit valid points but sure carry on, lots of thanks on offer for that kind of sneering around here. It's one of the things which is killing, or should I say, killed the place.

Oh, and I won't be naming names. It's not about guts. I shall be banned soon anyway. It's about not wishing to. The long time regulars know which mods appear on such threads when they are about women and rightly lock them, post warning etc etc, but when they are about men, they are never seen. No brownie points from on high you see.

There are some of the current crop that are balanced, for sure, maybe they've been busy.
I'l bite and probably get infracted but I would be a 100% certain if whoopsiedasie or dr.bolloko read this thread thread and it was a female victim even the OP would have been edited

In fairness to whoopsie, she hasn't been posting the past few days and she did post a warning recently when jokes were being made about a lad who was sexually assaulted by his teacher. You are spot on with your second choice though.

Heck, if this thread was about a woman that had been sexual mutilated, and no moderation of the jokes had taken place, or at least a warning given regarding them, there would have been a Feedback thread by now complaining about it, and as I also said: 'rightly so'.

In fairness to whoopsie, she hasn't been posting the past few days and she did post a warning recently when jokes were being made about a lad who was sexually assaulted by his teacher. You are spot on with your second choice though.

The myriad of reasons why this thread is locked should be fairly evident to anyone who reads it.
