The last time years ago I attested if thats the plan wed night it was smart casual. I have a feeling that ay least one will come suited and booted for the occasion and feel a tad awkward regretting that decision trying to do foot drill lol.

PDF is currently closed for entry, except medical doctors as far as I am aware from the careers page.

Thanks I know, I meant for the last recruitment drive in March.

I understand that recruitment for the RDF has just reopened with a closing date of 14th November.

The First Infantry Battalion in Galway will have an open day for prospective recruits within the next two or three weeks.

If you are interested in Galway, Ennis or Clifden send me a PM and I will pass on contact details.

lads for anyone reporting up Wednesday night turn up in a pair of jean and a tshirt at most don't be turning up in a full suit or shirt and slacks at most id be surprised if your going to be there for longer than 2 hours at most mostly because everybody goes home at 10pm anyway so youll probably be out of there at 10 at the very latest

Just a quick question - outside of the required few hours of attendance a week, are Reservists entitled to drop into the barracks any time or even stay overnight? Just thought I'd ask, since Cathal Brugha is halfway directly to and from college so it'd be fierce handy for myself to have that option.

Hi guys. Can anyone shed any light on the above?

I spent 7 years in the RDF and really enjoyed it, but had to pack it in due to other commitments. Would love to sign up again but I couldn't be doing with all the recruit and three star training all over again. Would deffo do an RDF 'cadetship' if I got pips out of it though. Are they now taking on specialists as per the link above? I can't find any more information on their site about applying for this.

accomodation will only be provided if it is needed for aactual purpose i.e camp or courses you can drop into the barracks but there would be nobody there

From what I was told by a Medical Corps officer some weeks back, they may be interested in anyone with an EMT (or close to this) qualification - you'd then be working as a medic out of Bricin's Hospital.

Other than that, check to see if any of their existing specialist roles would be suitable for you, i.e. nurse, groom, etc. The DF have some kind of unit of specialists and you could contact someone to see what/if any such roles they have right now. For example, there are some specialists who work in areas like IT even though these aren't mentioned on the website.

    All the best with it.

Do we need to bring anything on wednsday? Birth cert, passport? The email says nothing about bringing anything.

What exactly happens at this meeting and should 2bde recruitment have informed us about this? Thanks!

This meeting involves you coming in and expressing interest in joining, info on filling out the online form and putting your name forward for medical and fitness testing.

If you have already applied, and have not had a medical or fitness test yet, then most likely you will, along with these new people, be given notice to take part in medial and fitness in the coming months.

If you have filled in the online application and had no correspondence yet at all then you need to contact

RDF 2 Bgde HQ in cathal brugha and talk to them

What did everyone think of this evening lads? (and ladies)

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,293 ✭✭✭Garzard

A bit tedious in regards to waiting to attest, fill out paperwork etc. Got delayed here myself and so I might have been the last to do the oath - asked one of the corporals about this and was told it might have had something to do with the fact that I put religion down as Atheist? I thought this whole thing was secular! :p

Enjoyed the night anyway - particularly the foot drill practice. Also had a few good chats with brennan10 and Alkaline. Nice meeting you both! :) Where were you though rizzee? :)

My back was killing me standing there!! Haha

Yeah it was good, can tell already it will be good craic! Sound bunch of lads the ones I was talking to. I'd say I was in the 2nd group of 5 being sworn in, arrived at 7.15pm and there was a few there before me, dedication :p Heading to work now, hope I can get the time off for camp! :/

Yeah was good to get it started! In the process of trying to sort work out for FFT like many...fingers crossed! Now to understand the orders in irish regarding foot drill lol. Funnily enough the first lads I spoke to was the guys on this. Looking forward to the process. Prehaps I'll get the chance to meet you there next Wednesday....

Now that the formalities are out of the way it should be great Craic. The irish will be tough but I guess we'll get it soon enough.

I think I was in your group Garzard, the last one?

Also I was one of the last groups to be attested and I didn't get measurements for the uniform, I presume the other lads in my group didn't either but there was talk of having it already done from C.S. while in the drill square thing? Any of you lads get your measurements done or is it just me..?

As far as uniform concerns the measurements taken at the time of the fitness test I presume where those so they can arrange size requirements etc but that was 6 months now approx so perhaps they'll be difficulties arising soon from that.

    One size - fits nobody.

I had to attest on my own but by that stage I think there were only 2 or 3 lads left over confusion with paperwork etc. Were you one of them?
