My mate rang up this morning to see what the delay was and he was told that not all emails are sent out at once and the time of response partly depends on your interview date and application to whatever field [CIS, Inf, Cav etc] to take into consideration. Not to mention they've been swamped with Cadetship and PDF applications which they've also to respond to, so it could take a bit more time.

However I finally got word back for the Medical yesterday which is quoted below if anyone's wondering. Important bits are bolded.
Further to your application for the 2014 Reserve Defence Forces – Dublin

Where did you apply for if you don't mind me asking??

CIS in Cathal Brugha. Could've been because CIS might've had less applicants as opposed to Infantry and Cavalry [rizee and my mate who rang up are both going for the latter as it happens - he hasn't got word back either] or maybe we're just emailed in order from a list?

Had mine at 8:00 this morning and only got out an hour ago, tedious thing altogether. There was more waiting around with nothing to do than anything else. First thing they did was have us answer several medical questionnaires, then give urine, blood samples and a blood pressure test. The 6 of us then had to wait our turns for the hearing and vision tests plus a heart signal check. These took roughly an hour each and only two people at a time were taken. Being the only Dubliner, I was kept till last. After I had everything done I had to wait yet another hour for a clarification with an army doctor on my medical info.

AFAIK everyone including myself passed bar one guy who unfortunately fell just short of his vision test.

Tried ringing them earlier a few times and no answer. Left a voice mail. Sent an email. Still haven't gotten an email off them 5 weeks later. Is there anything I can do now? I'm heading away 16-20th June and 23rd to 26th June so be nice to find out.

Did you have to suit up for the medical?

St Bricin's MH - same place for every applicant. Training will most likely start in August, September at the latest.

Dress casually to make things easier for the doctors checking your body pulse, heart sounds, signals and also for the blood pressure test.

FINALLY got through on the phone. They just said they're busy with lots of applications and the moment and they're only sending out 20 a day at the moment and will depend on which barracks you applied for. Suppose if the medicals take quite long it will be hard to assign specific dates for people so I understand where they're coming from. He also said that I shouldn't have been told 3-4 weeks to hear from them, that it will take another 2 weeks max to finish processing the reserve emails regarding medicals.

Do you get told on the day weather you pass the medical or do they have to wait till bloods etc come back ?

After all your tests they'll bring you in for a final clarification on the medical info you've given throughout the day and let you know. However depending on a condition you might've had previously [asthma in my case until I was 4 or 5] they could ask you to get your GP's confirmation to say there's no risk of a recurrence. Should this happen, you'll be given a week to forward the GP's note onto the RDF.

Awh that's grand so they confirm your bloods/urine are ok on the day? And it's the same for the PDF I presume ? Expect more stuff to do in medical. Thanks for the information

Everything aside from the blood and urine samples, they didn't say how long those would take. They're taken to check for signs of HIV / AIDS, drug use etc. If you're free of everything then you've nothing to worry about.

Has anyone hear heard anything (officially or otherwise) about the possibility of another recruitment occurring this year? There had been some talk of this a while back - anyone hear even a rumour? ;)

I'll be too old to join next year; here's hoping they need a few more people.

  • Registered Users Posts: 289 ✭✭EGOSHEA

I guess I'm answering my own question (above) here but - for whomever might be interested - I emailed recruitment today and was advised that another recruitment will likely take place in August/September 2014. So for anyone who didn't get to apply in April, or who failed the fitness test/etc, there'll likely be another chance to apply soon.

I was advised to keep an eye out (week to week) for the recruitment notice on www.military.ie because they *may* be recruiting even sooner than Sep/Aug.

sounds Like a good idea EGOSHEA

During my medical the other day we were told that there'd be recruitment again next year, 300 places if I heard right.

  • Registered Users Posts: 48 Fiachra17

I think that 300 was for the PDF. At our medical anyway, we were told that the RDF were looking for 1000 this year, and the PDF were looking for 600.
