Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. Alfredo Simon must be gutted. Allowing only 1 run over 8 innings and still get the loss. I'll be honest I'd never heard go him until he did a similar job on the Mets last week but for a so called spot starter, he seems to pretty good.

That spot-starter tag is about to drop off....Latos has been shut down.

I know I've been quiet a couple of days.......fear not, I have not abandoned the Reds.......I had a good excuse not to be on here bragging about yesterday's offensive explosion.

Embarrassing stat of the day........The Milwaukee Brewers (6) after 2 weeks already have more road wins than the Milwaukee Bucks (5), with only 2 games left in the NBA season, the Bucks are 5-35 on the road.

What do you reckon about the Brewers? Small sample or are they legitimately a good team?

Is that an open question or just to Ollie! :-)

I'm dying to know how bad Braun's thumb injury really is.

Open to anyone really. You all know me at this stage and how I don't like making claims 2 weeks into the season but 9 in a row is impressive, no matter who you're up against.

Well this is my take on them, their starting pitching has been terrific but wont last, it will be good enough to keep them relevant though and in playoff contention. Their bats though are for real and will last obviously as long as everyone stays healthy.

I have been impressed with their aggressiveness and like you said 9 in a row is impressive no matter who you are playing. But they also weren't playing nobodies sweeping the Pirates and Red Sox.

Sure everyone takes 3 of the Red Sox these days....!!!

Two weeks into a season is too early to call anything.......I do think that the Brewers will contend for a WC spot, but they definitely aren't an .800 baseball team.....just like the Reds aren't a .300 team

some teams are slow to start out of spring, some teams start quick......get a schedule that puts a team of quick starters against slow starting teams, and you see a team going on a streak like the Brewers.

It'll all even iteself out by the time June comes around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,915 ✭✭✭Morrison J

I know its still extremely early but I think the Brewers are legit (if you look at the 2014 predictions thread I tipped them to finish above the Pirates). I was genuinely surprised to see so many experts so down on them this year.

In the fantasy league I'm in with a few mates I took Lucroy ahead of Carlos Santana. I really like Lucroy and think he'll have a huge year. Khris Davis is another I really like also even if he hasn't been too hot yet.

Pitching wise I'm really high on Marco Estrada. He'll have an All-Star calibre year imo and then I'v good faith in the likes of Lohse as well. Really enjoying watching this Brewers team.

    Some injury update:

    Cervelli off to the DL
Pedroia gets "great news" won't be on DL
Uehara not going on DL either

Don't know what's in the water in Cincinnati

    Scoring through 6....

Top 1: RBI single, Pirates 1-0
    Bottom 1: 2 Run homer, Reds 2-1
Top 2: Back to back homers, Pirates 3-2
    Bottom 4: 2 Run homer, Reds 4-3
Top 5: Back to back homers, Pirates 5-4
    Bottom 5: 2 Run homer, Reds 6-5
Top 6: Back to back homers, Pirates 7-6
Bottom 6: Sole homer, tied 7-7

That's 10 homers in 6 innings (Ballpark full game record already broken) and they're in a rain delay.

Jobu must be over-doing it.........we'll start over again this afternoon, with a shortened double-header.

No rain, but temperatures 35 degrees lower than last night.

FEcking hell Strasbourg got smacked around by the Marlins last night, funny the Marlins seem to have his number over the past 3 years.

Strasburg is hard to figure out. One day he's brilliant the next, he gets hit all over the place. I know all pitchers have days when they don't have their stuff but it seems to happen more to Strasburg than the other elite pitchers.

Having said that, I'd still have him on my team in a heartbeat.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,296 ✭✭✭Coeus

So it looks like the Astros are sick of been bad or are starting to worry about their bottom line and have called up George Springer. It will be interesting to see if this guy lives up to the hype!

Strasbourg needs to learn not to throw the heat so often. Thats what's killing him, trying to get ahead in the count throwing heaters is getting him hit all over the place.

On a side note. I'm excited to see Zach Walters hit his first Home run. Serious talent.

Is that poor coaching, bad game calling by the catcher or is he on his own when it comes to pitch selection? Maybe the pitching coach needs to be more forceful in getting him to mix it up a bit more

I dont really know, to be fair to Strasbourg and the catcher the Marlins just looked like they could hit anything last night. But this is the third dodgy start Strasbourg has had this season and two of them havent been against good hitting teams, no offence to the Marlins or Mets but the Braves are just at an upper tier so occasionally you'll expect that to happen.

I hope he gets out of this habit though. We need him being an ace to lead this staff.

Bloody hell. back to back to back HR given up on Sunday. Now back to back HRs today.

The old guys (Colon and Valverde) showing why no one else wanted them

EDIT: but on the positive side, the Mets are over .500 for the first time since 24 April last year. Enjoy it while it lasts eh?

True, Valverde especially cannot be trusted. Gee was good today, surprised he didn't get to finish the game. He didn't look injured or anything.

Great road trip, ye just need to bring that form home.

In his other starts, Gee has struggled the 3rd/4th time through the order after being unhittable the first couple of times through so maybe Collins was wary of that happening again

I think it was the right call I think the ball got there just before Bernadina.

Insane Red Sox game last night...

The ended up winning in 14 (over five hours later), by getting a hit off a utility infielder who was pitching for the White Sox... The WS also allowed 15 WALKS in the game... whaaa...?

The best news was that Pedroia had two hits including a HR. And JBJ is still hitting the ball... and playing brilliant CF... but ugh.... it's snowy in Chicago, and they played 5 hours... bleugh...

That game was still going when I got up this morning so I got to see the last couple of outs. There's usually a west coast game coming to an end when I get up but it was strange seeing one going on in Chicago.

But under the new rules, the catcher can't position himself where he's blocking the plate until after he has the ball.

he has the ball before Bernadina arrives though would be my interpretation of it. He only has to get out of the way if the ball doesn't get there before the runner, which in my opinion from the replays it did. Just about mind you
