Grocery Product barcode databases?

    I was looking for an iPhone app for scanning groceries to create a shopping list, but despite getting the top ones, it seems a lot of product barcodes in Ireland are exclusive to this territory. Not just Irish products either, international brands too.

    So I was thinking of creating my own app.

    Does anyone know where product databases are kept or are they exclusive to each individual store - Dunnes/Tesco etc?
