Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

What is going in the den of iniquity.

Independent TD Patrick Nulty resigns over drunken message to 17-year-old

Suppose he qualifies for a severance package, and a pension,

Bty, didn't he resign from something before?

Yes, but he is pulling out of this one fairly quickly.

The Labour party had such high hopes for Paddy when he burst on to the scene, seems to have all gone wrong since though.

He resigned, rather than claim that somebody had hacked his account? He's clearly not made for Irish politics.

An old mafia film years ago, Godfather dressing down one of his men for having an affair with the wife of one of his colleagues, "Man is born with two heads, one small and the other one big, the big one is for thinking the other is for!!!!. do not let the small take over". Seems like good advice.

Seems though he can't hide behind party politics now can we lynch him as an example.

His statement refers to a "17 year old woman". Ah no Patrick. That would be a "17 year old girl".

Bet the guys in FF, are not happy that he will be the headline in the Red Tops, Sunday, rather than some speech at the Ard-Feis.

He's 31! - that's what I find most shocking - father time can be so cruel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,175 ✭✭✭BKWDR

Actual double edged sword...claimed he sent them when he was drunk. But only reason he was caught was the messages were geotagged to Leinster house...

    Begs the question really...

There is another one still a TD with grown up children, hung around the Papel cross, got ten grand of the state over a puncture.

He was in an accident or a fire when he was young if I recall correctly. That's why his appearances is how it is.

Fairly weird situation all round really. The by-election should be interesting considering it's was a Fianna Fail seat won by a maverick Labour TD.

Not really. The surprising thing would be to find a sober TD in that place after 9pm. It's the excuse most of them come up with when asked on the doorsteps why they voted for the most recent bailout or budget or cutback.

Give it a while and he'll be back topping the polls. It is Ireland, after all.

I know. Same age myself, he reminds me of my aunts/uncles age lol. Would have said 45-50 range without a doubt.

Could that be the night the bar never closed in the Dail, when some TD was lapdancing, and voted through some bill that will cost our kids and their grankids their lives to repay when they were all locked.

    The moderation there is curious.

Any amount of vile race baiting/homophobia is a-ok.

Speculate on public figures & the comment deletions are almost immediate.

what a dope 31 years of age , a TD . At the beginning of what could have been a very lucrative career , I mean a lengthy vocation of service to his country . At least he didn't sign in to Lomans or say he has chest pains . Don't drink and type kids.......

To be fair there's a massive difference in the two, I cant see how anyone could compare them really.

Well he did run under the guise of labour in order to get elected before leaving, something that didn't go down well in his constituency.

At least he had the decency to resign. The fella using rent boys in the Park is still drawing a big wage and a cushy pension in the bank

Have you ever been spanked??

What was he thinking?? I'm in his constituency and tbh him and Joe Higgins havn't made much of a contribution to the Daíl so it would be no loss with him gone. I wonder if there will be a bi-election alongside the local/European vote.

That pissed me off alright, and it was something he explicitly said he wouldn't do before the election. Six weeks later, bam.

On the contrary, they both have contributed more to debate in the Dáil and to making the Cabinet accountable than Joan Burton or any Labour backbencher.

When did you last hear about something Patrick Nutty said in the Dail. Pretty much the last I heard of him was when he broke away from the labour party.

Joe Higgins is much quieter this term then during the last govt.

Resigned after he first tried to deny. Forced to resign. Had he any thought that he could get away with it he wouldn't have resigned.

each and everytime the Irish people fail to show they definately will not stand for this or any of the other dodgy $hit our elected "leaders" get up to we show those up to no good that if they get caught the consequences are minimal.

The Ceann Comhrairle refuses to allow him to speak.
Joe Higgins is much quieter this term then during the last govt.
As a member of the Technical Group, Joe Higgins speaks 10 times more than Joan Burton or any other Labour member.

Joe Higgins plays an important role intervening in Dail debates (you can find videos of his contributions on his website.

You can also find a record of his Dail contributions here -
    http://www.kildarestreet.com/td/joe_higgins/dublin_west

Final point - Joe Higgins has played an enormous role building opposition to austerity and over the past few months building the AAA. He has spoken at dozens of meetings all over the country and has spent a considerable amount of time canvassing for AAA candidates over the same period.

E.g. Joe Higgins spoke at a Socialist Party public meeting in Limerick attended by more than 120 people the weekend before last and then canvassed for AAA candidates the following day -

Yesterday Joe Higgins was among the contributors at a very successful conference in Dublin on building opposition to austerity.

Joe Higgins wasn't actually a member of the Dail during the last gov. He only got elected to the Dail again at the last election having lost his seat in 2007.

He also likes to give his friends cushy jobs for which he didn't let the electorate have their say in. What's that Joe used to say about cronyism ?

At the time of the last by election David McGuinness was quite un-known and got a lot of votes on the back on Brian Lenihan.

At the moment he would be the clear favourite IMO.

I am curious why different standards apply to TDs like Mr. Nulty and Cabinet ministers such as Phil Hogan.
