Er, what are you doing with it to use up 145euros in one day? Are you downloading a silly amount of mkv video files by any chance?

    Thanks for your reply,
Now today I've disabled some apps; online for few hours intermittently and credit has stablised.
Might just enable apps as I intend using them until I find the source of this & see which eats more credit as I use it.

received numerous texts from Vodafone lastyear saying they were upping the price of online usage (msg now lost with my last phone, along with photos, videos etc etc). Anywhoo, was online alot lastnight on play downloading varying apps and setting up varying accounts on the phone.
Just that price still seems excessive.

down to just over 50euro left. Seriously cannot put any more credit in this week :(

My last HTC ate credit for the first few days also; again setting everything up and playing around with it, but this seems crazy.
Am with Vodafone - Happened anyone else?

    Many Thanks,

What's apps are you using? That definitely can't be right. Switch your mobile data off when not using it, that will save credit and battery

Might also switch off mobile data when not using it. Was receiving updates for some time and new alerts from online accounts also as they happened which would've affected usage each time one came in.

    Thank You for replying,

No problem, if you can switch to 3, you get unlimited data on ready to go for 20 quid. Far better deal.

Must resist...urge to make Kerryman joke...

That's not your phone: that's your data eating your credit. I downloaded a load of language apps the first time I got a smartphone and managed to chew through 30 euro of credit in 2 days: I had gone through my 500mb monthly allowance and it started to eat my credit instead. I jumped ship from vodafone a week later after seeing just how many MB I would use in a day and how much the competition offered.

You might also want to dive into settings and turn off instant notifications, updates and sync emails to every 30 mins (unless essential to you) because they'll all run in the background constantly and with 3g or 4g running will hammer your pocket as well as the battery.

Has anyone got any tips for cleaning the camera lens? The quality of the pics in the last month on my phone has been really bad.

The anti-fingerprint coating on the lens probably needs to be removed. I used toothpaste, made a huge difference.

Yup. I had to use toothpaste on mine too.. wipe on with an earbud. Off with surgical spirits/ vodka. Massive difference. You can even see it on the lens -before it's like scratched to death. After is like new.

I looked up the toothpaste thing you mentioned. I think it worked!

You might find doing it again will improve it further. You don't want to overdo it obviously, but I bet if you look at the lens you will see it clear near the centre, but still all scratchy as you go out to the outer area. That's how it looks to me from that photo at least.
You could leave the toothpaste on for a minute or so before removing.

I'll do it again tomorrow. I'll take it outside and see how it looks too. Think it's easier to see in natural light.

Is there a massive difference between the m7 and m8?

Just wondering whether it's worth upgrading

    My m7 still running great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,954 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

Well the M9 is not far off so you might as well wait and see if that interests you

I upgraded from M7 to M8 about 3 months ago. Nice phone but not much in the difference in my opinion. With M9 being so close would hang on to see what that brings!

In the process of downloading it on a Vodafone M8.

One cool feature I noticed is the background image on lock screens if you're using netflix/spotify as it shows tv show/album art.

Lock screen is cool, shows notifications and you can interact with them by double tapping.

Found one thing that could be annoying. The 'recent apps' button will bring up all recent apps in a different format (card layout instead of a grid) but there's no longer a way to close all of them at once like you used to be able do.
    Unless I've completely missed something.

I'm on an old version of InsertCoin ROM and have been waiting for this update to be released so I start using the more up to date versions. Does anyone have a copy of the RUU, and if so, would they have a few pointers on what to do from there to upgrade my device.

    Thanks

No, it's a feature of lollipop. It is bad for battery management to be clearing all your recent apps, and then restarting them from scratch next time you use a frequently used app. Lollipop is trying to force you into better battery management practices.

Various custom roms provide a "solution" if you want to keep that the close all apps feature

You can change it to HTC grid by using 3 dot menu when in recent apps. If you can't see the menu, then try putting your phone in landscape.

Killing apps for memory and battery management with android is generally a waste of time.

Must be a result of update to Lollipop.
I have a pattern set up to unlock the phone and I can just wake the phone to that screen,
it wakes up to the lock screen where you have to drag the padlock up.

I previously had it just waking up to where you enter the pattern.
    Anybody else use this sequence.

Same for me, downloading Lollipop on my Unlocked M8 on Meteor now, hopefully I don't regret it!

My update starts to install then dies after about 25% of the install process on my M8. I have a custom recovery but I reflashed a stock one to install the update. Any suggestions ?

Hopefully it's not too big either. I'm in limbo with my upgrade at the minute.

I had planned on the nexus 6. But the fact it dwarfs my current note 3 I'm now 3 months waiting for an upgrade, and I'm nearly tempted to try an iPhone 6 😕.

If that leaked picture is the new htc, I think ill get that.

Hopefully it's not too big either.

With it being in two different sizes it should be able to suit most people thankfully. I wonder how the new physical home button will be received on the larger model.

Some of the review s seem very poor, saying Samsung better, how can you have a proper review without either finished product but at the same time I would not follow blindly

Yeah, that's a side effect of them rushing the lollipop update. This feature has been removed, but hopefully it returns for sense 7.

First one is supposedly the HTC edge. I've had about 10 HTC phones, including the sensation, and mine didn't look like that....Had to Google it!

Apparently it's not an actual physical home button in the style of Samsung's flagships just merely a fingerprint sensor, so it'll be more like Apple's touch ID in implementation compared to Samsung's sliding fingerprint.

Lads I updated last night and had an issue with Wifi after. My phone is unlocked with no custom roms or any mods. After I updated it wouldn't connect to my home wifi. I googled it and found some people were having this issue after the update. So I did a few simple things people recommended like change the wifi frequency, update all the apps, and forget and reconnect to network. None worked, so I figured that it needed to be restored. I didn't restore yet and I went into work this morning to find it connected to my work wifi with no issues. All my other devices worked fine on my home wifi last night, and when I went into wifi settings on my M8 it looks as if my wifi scanner was having issues. Very odd!

Try just deleting the WiFi connection and reconnecting as if it's new. It's possibly some minor glitch.

No bugs on mine so far but I'm not sure I love the UI changes.
