    getting sick of this car.

    I have 2003 passat 1.9TDI.

The light on dash board stays on constant even the all doors are fully and nicely closed. And I can not lock the car with remote keys. it just start to happen today.

The unlock button on keys works,it try to re-open the door but doesnt lock it.
I check all doors around even the boot door.but the red sign on dash board still there.

Note to moderator : is this post in wrong form, you may then inform me please.thanks.

Check the sensors on side of door? Happened to a fella in job and it was a loose cable. The sensors are those black rubber things in door wells.

AFAIK, there's no button in the door frame to sense that the door is closed and to turn on/off the interior light.

Are you getting the buzzer when you leave the lights on and open the door?

Getting a similar problem in a 2001 Passat. I think it's the door lock mechanism as the sensor for detecting whether the door is open is built into the mechanism.

yes correct there is not a button in the door frame to sense that door is closed.

I am getting the buzzer sound even the indicator handle was left in position.

I search through internet,as you said the sensor on the lock mechanism could fail.

But I dont know how to fix it, should complete lock mechanism to be replaces or Can only the sensor be replaceable.??

Take the rubber cover off and grease it. They can be sticky.

I don't know if there is one on the car for it but also check the bonnet is firmly shut.

My Golf of the same vintage has problems with the door switches as they are built into the door lock mechanism so I would imagine the Passat of the same generation is the same.

The passenger door sensor is stuck in the closed position most of the time so the interior lights very rarely come on when someone opens that door which can be annoying sometimes.

The fix is to take the door card off, then the inner door skin and replace/fiddle with the mechanism. By fiddle I mean clean up. You could get away with some WD40 sprayed into the latch and hope it gets to the switch. It worked for me a couple of times with WD-40 but not enough to fix it completely.

Would brake cleaner be paint safe Motors peeps? I have a feeling that would work better than WD40. May try it myself.

which rubber is this you mention?. Is it the black plastic on the door well where the cable pass through the door?
