Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Need to back up & restore an iphone for a family member

Hey, I need to backup & restore my grandfathers iphone because he's changing phone networks, thats what the girl on the phone said needs to be done before the network change can take place.

Anyway, I need to do it on my PC. I dont use apple products what so ever, and I'm planning to download itunes and just do this tomorrow.

However, I was told that I have to do it on a computer/itunes the phone was originally synced with, or it has to be an authorized itunes (or something )

Thing is, my grandfather doesnt even have a pc and he doubt he even knows the details to his itunes account or whatever.

Is it possible to do this at all without going through some awkward process? Will plugging the iphone into my pc on the newly installed itunes wipe everything on his phone?

I just want to restore the bloody thing and get rid of itunes from my pc as quickly and easily as possible.

    Thanks.

No need to restore if he's just changing network. You don't need to use iTunes but go to settings and then iCloud. If it asks for a username and password use his Apple ID. Make sure contacts are set to on and scroll down to storage and backup. Scroll down again and tap back up now. I think you might have to be connected to wifi but not sure.

Doing this will make a backup on iCloud.

You need to restore to get the phone unlocked if you don't have a different SIM card. If you have another sim from a different network you just need to connect the phone to iTunes and it will unlock.

iCloud backup is the best option for backing up the phone.

Yes I realise that but the op never mentioned that the phone was being unlocked. If they are moving network they will have a different sim anyway.

It backs up apps, photos, messages...everything. However to access the backup after a restore you'll need to know the Apple ID and password. Have a look at the bottom of the App Store for it.
