Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Well sit in the GP's or HSE and don't leave if that what it takes. Get off the phone and get down the doctors - would she not get respite?

In this case what can a social worker do? Surely he needs medical help

I wonder if Joe will have his good friend, salt of de earth Dub Harry Crosbie on soon, NAMA decided to enforce their €77 million loans against him as he lied through his teeth about what assets he and his family had.

    http://www.irishtimes.com/business/sectors/commercial-property/harry-crosbie-failed-to-disclose-assets-nama-tells-court-1.1794578?page=1
Mr Crosbie had initially provided Nama with “materially inaccurate” sworn statements of the assets held by himself and his family which failed to disclose all the assets held, including property in France, he said.
Nama was also concerned to learn of payments of some €740,000 and €650,000 from Mr Crosbie to his wife Rita around the time Nama took over his loans, counsel said.
Mr Crosbie also failed to disclose significant cash gifts to his children. It was in those and other circumstances Nama decided to enforce the loans and was claiming entitlement to summary judgment for some €77 milion against Mr Crosbie, he said.

I feel for her, I have a child with autisim myself and with cut backs there is very little help out there.

I would be inclined to think this way for "every" day bad behaviour but in fairness, this child seems to be pretty bad

Mind you, how does a seven year old child know about self-harming. I thought this would have been a learned behaviour, rather than instinctive

In fairness the treatment of autistic children is a disgrace in this country and it is so shortsighted not to plough resources at it because if the kids cant be independent as adults its going to cost the state multiples of what they could have spent on a child

Not in this case by the sounds of it.

Its bad enough when this kid is 7. In another 7 or 8 years when he could be a 6ft 2 18 stone teenager, he will hurt somebody else (maybe badly or worse), probably his mother.

I doubbt if the HSE gives a toss whether or not she goes on Liveline, the woman in Cavan confined to her room for 4 years never got her wheelchair...

What has that got to do with this call, have you being listening at all?

The child is autistic and self harming by severely slapping his head.

Not screaming in the aisle of Tesco because she didn't buy him sweets.

This caller and her son are being seriously let down by the authorities here.

There is help there - her son could go to respite

There are foster parents there that could take a child for a weekend / one week in 8, etc, there is help there, but maybe she can't access it

autisim is not caused by bad parents of a lack of discipline

What's the father (or the granny, or the first cousin once removed for that matter) got to do with anything in this case?

The woman is looking for professional help with her son who is causing himself serious harm, not for a babysitter for Friday night, or fifty quid to help with the groceries.

The cynicism on this thread astounds me once again.

massive waiting lists and not always suitable, I doubt if her son is as she says he would be granted respite tbh.

ah Joe, no slagging to be had here with this sad story, get a caller on about a scammer or rip-off merchant. We haven't had an event elephant in a while?

I'd even take Martin 'de culture' Collins on now for a bit of scandal

He could help and she could get a break.

Being a parent is hard enough without having a special needs child

So a child's autism is the fault of the mother now because she never shuts up?

Wtf are you talking about? The child has autisim....it makes no difference if there is a father or not on the scene, its not going to make his autisim magically go away. Obviously people have heard this women talk, heard her accent, heard her age and judged her child is just a brat and she is a bad mother.

That wasn't a joke - there are respite carers that could give the mother a break - its hard to continually fight for your rights or the rights for your child. If she's not sleeping, she probably can't even think straight
